05/07:
Even NASCAR Not Immune to Rising Prices of Gasoline
CONCORD, N.C. -- As gas prices soar across the country, the thought of paying $6.25 a gallon would make any consumer cringe.

Yet that's what it costs in NASCAR, where race teams use a special Sunoco 260 GTX unleaded fuel to fill their cars. Although the gas is free -- part of Sunoco's agreement as NASCAR's official fuel supplier -- it doesn't mean car owners and drivers aren't feeling the pain at the pump. (NASCAR.com)

Truck Series.

Moss said he plans for the team to debut at some point in the second half of this season and run selected races. The partial schedule is a prelude to a full-time campaign in 2009. Sponsors and manufacturer alignments will be announced at a later date. (AutoWeek.com)

Waltrip Had Roush Part, Refutes Notion it Was Stolen
MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Like others in the NASCAR garage, Michael Waltrip is making light of Jack Roush's allegation that his team may have maliciously stolen a proprietary part -- a sway bar -- from Roush-Fenway Racing last season.

Inside the Martinsville Speedway media center Saturday morning, Waltrip, owner of Michael Waltrip Racing, admitted he had the part, however, he said "no one went to [Roush's] toolbox and swiped his sway bar." (NASCAR.com)

Kentucky Speedway appealed the decision to dismiss without trial its antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR and International Speedway Corp., citing six errors the track contends were made by U.S. District Court Judge William Bertelsman.

The appeal was filed last week with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in Cincinnati by lead counsel Stan Chesley. Legal arguments have not yet been filed. (bizjournals.com)

05/09: Stewart Refuses to Rule out Driving in Indy 500 Again
If Tony Stewart ever runs another Indianapolis 500, which the NASCAR star said Wednesday remains a very big if, he vows to do it right.

That means showing up in March for the start of the IndyCar Series season, not in May for the start of Indy 500 practice. (IndyStar.com)

- Schrader to Drive No. 70 Car for Haas at Talladega
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- Haas CNC Racing announced on Wednesday that Ken Schrader will drive the No. 70 Chevrolet at Talladega next weekend.

I'm definitely very excited about the opportunity to drive for Haas CNC Racing," Schrader said. "It is a younger team that is going through the growing process but yet has all of the elements in place.

"The team has an outstanding relationship with Hendrick Motorsports, and we know they have a proven engine program. We certainly don't have to second guess the equipment." (NASCAR.com)

03/13: Driver's Remarks Send Goodyear into PR Spin
On Monday, Goodyear was peddling a feel-good story: "Goodyear tops Fortune magazine's most-admired list."

But 24 hours earlier, NASCAR driver Tony Stewart was peddling his own story.

"Goodyear can't build a tire worth a crap," said the mouthy fireplug of a man known for saying exactly what's going on inside his racing helmet. A frustrated Stewart was speaking after a race Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway about newly designed tires that forced drivers to drive like grandmas.

But he was just getting started. (ajc.com)

03/04:
Skinner to Replace Allmendinger
NASCAR veteran Mike Skinner will take over AJ Allmendinger's seat at the Red Bull Racing Team with immediate effect, following a disappointing start to the season for the former Champ Car race winner.

Allmendinger has failed to make the field for the first three races of the season despite showing good speed during pre-season testing. His more experienced teammate Brian Vickers has been on the grid for all three races though, and currently ranks 13th in the points. (autosport.com)

- Red Bull Racing Replaces Allmendinger

Red Bull Racing pulled A.J. Allmendinger from the No. 84 NASCAR Sprint Cup Toyota yesterday, replacing him temporarily with Craftsman Truck Series champion Mike Skinner.

Team boss Jay Frye said that getting Allmendinger out of the car was not a punishment for the 25-year-old former Champ Car World Series driver.

"We're at a crossroads where we need to make a change that will elevate the No. 84 team to success," Frye said. "AJ's our guy and he's a talented driver, but there's a lot being asked of him. In order for him to be successful, we have to get this team pointed in the right direction." (torontosun.com)

Robby Gordon will Leave Ford for Dodge
Robby Gordon has always marched to a different drummer, and yesterday he pulled another surprise, leaving Ford to jump to the Dodge team of Ray Evernham and George Gillett.

Gordon, one of the few independent team owners left in NASCAR and one of the very few owner-drivers, left Chevrolet in 2006 after many years with GM to run Fords, with the promise of more engineering help from the Jack Roush-Robert Yates operation.

But Gordon lost ace crew chief Greg Erwin, who moved to Roush’s operation as crew chief for Greg Biffle last spring. And Gordon has gone through more crew-chief changes in the months since. (journalnow.com)

Kahne Pleads Not Guilty in Alleged Shoving Incident
A not guilty plea has been entered for Kasey Kahne, the Gillett Evernham Motorsports driver facing a misdemeanor assault charge for shoving an elderly security guard to the ground last season at Homestead-Miami Speedway, according to court documents.

Kahne was originally set to appear for an initial hearing Tuesday in Miami Circuit Court, however, counsel submitted, in writing, a plea of not guilty on behalf of the driver waiving his mandated appearance.

A maximum sentence for misdemeanor battery is one year in jail and up to $1,000 in fines. A trial date is expected to be set for the case Tuesday. (NASCAR.com)

NASCAR Driver Kahne Sued Over Shoving Incident with Speedway Guard
MIAMI - A security guard filed suit against Kasey Kahne seeking damages for "severe physical injuries" when the NASCAR driver allegedly shoved him to the ground at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Archibald Hutchinson is seeking unspecified damages in excess of US$15,000 in the suit filed Tuesday in the 11th Circuit Court.

Kahne is due in court Jan. 8 to answer charges of misdemeanor battery stemming from the Nov. 16 incident. The maximum sentence for misdemeanor battery is one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

He had no comment on the suit, but Rick Russell, president of Gillett Evernham Motorsports, said the team supports its driver.

"The alleged action in this case is not consistent with the Kasey Kahne we know," Russell said. "It is unfortunate the issue has progressed to this point. We support our driver, Kasey Kahne, and have complete confidence in the legal process." (canadianpress)
