07/03: It's Raining it Must be Cup
Qualifying
NCRL-
Rain has once again resulted in
Cup quailing being cancelled. This puts the filed on the track by
points and has Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch,
and Carl Edwards your top five starters.
So what is in store for Saturday night's race? Race Weather.net is
calling for a hot and humid day with temperatures in the low 90's and
then dropping into the high 60 as the race progresses. The good
news is no rain is forecast at this time. But, it is Florida and you
never really know.
The race will be on TNT starting at 7:30 pm ET. Yep, 7:30 pm.
Should be a long night.

07/02: No Mayfield Yet
NCRL-
It appears that Jeremy Mayfield
will likely not be racing this weekend at Daytona. Because of the
short time frame to get his car in the line-up and the late fees to
register the only way that he could still make it would be with another
team.
The other team possibility appears to be drying up as well. The fact
that Mayfield is currently carrying the scarlet letter by NASCAR many of
the possible owners that could put him in a car are not calling.
It appears that it is that NASCAR fear.
For a team to pick him up while NASCAR has labeled him as a drug addict,
and a threat to the safety and well being of fans and drivers alike it
would not be something that NASCAR would likely reward.
NASCAR is known for running the sport their way. If you don't like
it you don't have to participate has been their business model for
years. They killed driver unions, as well as pit crew
associations. They are known to toss penalties out at times with
no apparent regard for other like and similar violations. As a
driver or an owner you don't cross NASCAR.
So the likelihood that Mayfield will find a ride for this weekend, or
any other race with the temporary injunction in place is very unlikely.
The bigger questions is what if Mayfield should win his lawsuit?
Will NASCAR admit that they were wrong? It is unlikely considering
their position at this time. If they should lose it will be a very
big black-eye for the sport.

07/01: Judge Puts Mayfield Back in the
Car, Kind' a
NCRL-
U.S. District Court Judge Graham
Mullen has issued a temporary injunction this afternoon lifting
Jeremy Mayfield's drug suspension, allowing him to race at Daytona this
weekend.
The Judge indicted in his ruling that the "likelihood of a false
positive in this case is quite substantial."
This came after the NASCAR attorneys portrayed Mayfield as a danger to
the sport. But, Mullen ruled that the "harm to Mr. Mayfield
significantly outweighs the harm to NASCAR" . The issuing the
injunction, does not settle the larger civil suit filed by Mayfield or
NASCAR's countersuit.
When asked if NASCAR intended to appeal the decision NASCAR chairman
Brian France indicated that the organization has no immediate plans to
file an appeal, but neither did he rule it out.
NASCAR also indicted that if Mayfield should attempt to qualify that he
would need to undergo another drug test. Mayfield indicated he had
not problem in complying.
However, even with the injunction there is still a strong possibility
that Mayfield will not race this weekend at Daytona. Funding, and
other administrative issues may keep him out of the race. But, he
did say that he may drive for another team.
Not only are NASCAR and Mayfield at odds over the testing but what
NASCAR has indicated as the amount of Methamphetamine in his system.
Mayfield's attorney Bill Diehl argued said that the amounts of
meth indicted by NASCAR would mean that Mayfield was "either a walking
zombie or he's dead.

- IRL Changes Aero Package
NCRL-
After a less than stellar race in
Richmond, and other ho-hum oval race the IRL has announced new
aerodynamic rules.
The rule changes are to go into effect for the August 1st race at
Kentucky which will be the next oval as the teams move to road and
street courses until then.
It is expected that the modification will give the option of up to 300
pounds in additional downforce. The IRL hopes that this will
result in and encourage more overtaking and passing.
The last few ovals races have been criticized as very boring as there is
little in the way of racing. While the drivers indicate that they
are pushing their cars that they just don't have the ability to get by
another car. This results in most of the lead changes tied to pit stops.
- Correction
NCRL-
We reported yesterday that Tony
George would remain as the CEO of the Indy Racing League. That is
not the case. George resigned any control in the Speedway, Hulman
& Co., and the IRL. He will continue to be in charge of the IRL
Vision Race team,
_______________________________________________
06/30: George Dumped
NCRL-
Rumors are running wild and like
a lot of them they tend to turn out to be facts. It was speculated that
Tony George would be removed from the family business as CEO for the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Those rumors were pushed off by
George earlier. But, as of today it is not a rumor.
George was voted out starting on July 1. 2009 for a new management team
comprised of IMS executive W. Curtis Brighton and Jeffrey G. Belskus.
While George will no longer have CEO duties but will remain on the board
of the Hulman-George companies, and continue to be the CEO of the IRL.

06/29: Rumors Have Truex Moving
NCRL-
It's been expected that Martin
Truex Jr. will be leaving Earnhardt Ganassi Racing at the end of the
2009 series, but just where he might land has been something of a guess.
Well, now the indication is that Truex will be moving to Michael Waltrip
Racing.
The bigger question is will he make the move before the end of the 2009
season? Some rumors say yeas and it could be as soon as Chicago.
If the rumors are true he will likely be in the #56 Toyota making MWR a
four car team.
In another rumor at MWR is that this may be the last season for Michael
Waltrip helping to free-up the spot for Truex and for Michael a limited
run in 2010.
- #3 Back on the Track
NCRL-
The #3 Richard Childress Chevy
that seven time Cup Champion Dale Earnhardt earned his 76 wins in
will be in the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England July 3 -5.
The race will be driven in demonstration runs during the festival. The
driver will be another Earnhardt, that of Taylor Earnhardt Dale
Earnhardt's 20 year-old daughter. She will be accompanied by her
mother Teresa Earnhardt.
The Chevy was driven by Dale Earnhardt in his 2000 win at Talladega.
- Less than Thrilling IRL Race Brings Driver Apologies
NCRL-
In what usually is a fairly
exciting race this Saturday night's IRL race at Richmond wasn't one of
them. For all intent team Ganassi who dominated everyone during
qualifying on Friday went right on to dominate Saturday night.
And if it wasn't for the Team Penske cars both crashing out it would of
looked a lot like the starting grid.
There were only three lead changes Saturday night to continue the
disappointing oval racing of late. The ovals at both Texas and
Kansas saw little in the way of passing and racing. If one car gets out
ahead of the pack they are virtually imposable to get by.
At the end of Richmond pole sitter and second place finisher Dario
Franchitti apologized to the fans for what they saw. He indicted
that the drivers are pushing as hard as they can but they just can't get
close enough to make a pass.
The IRL is looking at options, one of which comes from the old Champ Car
Series, the power boost which would give a driver extra horse power for
a limited time is being tested as well as tire rules.
The league that was built on ovals needs to do something soon if they
want fans to see them race.

06/28: The Hometown Kid Wins in the
Rain
NCRL-
The youngest NASCAR Cup driver to
win a race is no longer Kyle Busch. 19 year old Joey Logano found
himself in the right place at the right time as rain ended the Lenox 301
with him in the lead to pick up his first Cup win.

While Logano was never really a threat through the race most of the race
falling off the lead lap but getting it back on at lap 169 after the
seventh caution. Then losing a tire and tear up his car on lap
182. But, when the leaders came in on lap 235 five drivers
including Logano stayed out because of the weather.
As the teams cycled through Ryan Newman and Logano were one, two with
Jeff Gordon third. The rain would hold off causing Newman to run
out of gas turning the lead over to Logano.
On lap 266 the yellow came out because of the rain and on 273 NASCAR
flew the red flag, and in less than 15 minutes they would call the race
giving Logano the win.
For Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch who finished second and third it was
disappointing after battling most of the race for the lead to lose it
because of weather withy only 28 laps to go. Both drivers cars
where the better cars than Lagano's in in the top five most of the race.
Behind Gordon and Busch were Reutimann, and Stewart rounding out the top
five.
The race saw 11 cautions and two red flags. There were 14 leaders
and 24 lead changes with Jimmie Johnson leading the most laps with 93.
- Dixon Wins at Richmond
NCRL-
Scott Dixon would best his
teammate Dario Franchitti to make Saturday night's Sun Trust Indy
Challenge a Ganassi 1-2.
Dixon who started from the outside of Franchitti who won the pole Friday
would get by his teammate early and go on to lead 161 of the 300 laps.
Dixon would wrap it up when Franchitti came in for a splash and go on
lap 139 during a yellow.
Things didn't work out as well for Team Penske as both drivers would
crash out of the race.,
For Franchitti his second place finish and pole has him currently in the
points lead.
Rounding out the podium was Gram Rahal would pick up his best oval
finish.

06/26: Franchitti Blisters Richmond
Track
NCRL-
With a four lap average speed of
167.315 mph Dario Franchitti breezed to the pole for this Saturday
night's Sun Trust Indy Challenge at Richmond. He would beat his
teammate Scott Dixon by .667 mph. For Dixon he will start from the
second position followed by the Penske teammates of Helio Castroneves
and Ryan Briscoe.
The race will be televised on Versus starting at 8:00 pm ET.
- A Crash, then Rain Puts Stewart on Pole
NCRL-
It was a busy day for Tony
Stewart, he crashed his primary car in practice, then bettered his speed
in the back-up. But, he will still get to start from the front
because qualifying was rained out.
So, with another rain related starting lineup Stewart will start from
the pole with Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, and Carl Edwards
in the top five spots.
Speaking of weather, our friends at Race Weather.net are calling for a
nasty weekend in Loudon, New Hampshire. All weekend they are predicting
rain and thunderstorms. Saturday in the high 70s low 80's, and
Sunday mostly cloudy low to mid 70s and a 30% chance of rain. Not
Good.
If the race should go it will be televised on TNT starting at 1:30 pm
ET.

06/24: IRL News: Cleveland Still Not
on IRL Schedule, But Brazil is
NCRL-
What some call the second most
popular race in American open wheel behind Long Beach is Cleveland.
It was announced that it will be yet another year before the IRL will
run at the temporary airport course.
Organizers say the Grand Prix of Cleveland feel it is very unlikely that
the race will appear on the 2010 schedule. So, MJ Productions is
looking at 2011 as a target date.
When the IRL was asked the issue it was as it is everywhere in motor
sports, the economy. But, that appears not to have stopped them
from picking up a race in Brazil for 2010. The President of the
Indy Racing League's commercial division, Terry Angstadt confirmed on
that they intended to race next March in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil, about
200 miles from Sao Paulo.
Also it was confirmed by Angstadt that the 2010 schedule will have a
50/50 split between ovals and street and road courses. This will
be a first for a league that was developed specifically for ovals.
But, after the Champ Car/IRL split and the downfall of Champ Cars road
and street courses were expected. Plus most of the current drivers
were old Champ Car drivers who ran almost a 50/50 split. So it
makes a lot of sense to expand the series.

06/21: Big Day for Kahne and the King
NCRL-
In what was a rocking and rolling
road race at Infineon Raceway Kasey Kahne would pick up his first win of
the 2009 session and tenth in his career. He would also bring
Richard Petty his fist win since 1999 when John Andretti won at the
spring race at Martinsville.

Kahne started in the fifth position and would make it to the front on
lap 31 when leader Tony Stewart pulled into the pits. Kahne would
give the lead up when he pitted on lap 34.
When they went back green Denny Hamlin would be the new leader.
Hamlin would settle in until pit stops on lap 67.
After pit stops Scott Speed would be the leader with Kahne in second. On
the next lap Kahne would make a move on Speed's outside and take the
lead brining Tony Stewart with him. What this set up was a race
between the two dirt track races for the rest of the race.
Kahne would hold off Stewart for four double file restarts to hold off
Stewart to win in Sonoma.
Behind Kahne and Stewart was Marcos Ambrose who had to start from the
41st spot after a new engine was needed and an incident with Jimmie
Johnson on Saturday. Johnson was fourth and Denny Hamlin rounded
out the top five spots.
Kahne would lead the most laps with 37. There were 10 leaders and
8 lead changes.

Oh, for such service last weekend. The 2007 IndyCar Series champion

his brother, Marino, compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Leaving the
venue, the car coughed to a stop on the side of the road. There he

chat -- until a flatbed arrived.

06/20: Castroneves on Iowa Pole
NCRL-
One thing that has been a common
thread in racing this season has been the weather. As a result of
seeping water on the track Helio Castroneves was awarded the pole.
The IRL set the field by by entrant points and even though Castroneves
didn't race in the first race of the IRL season due to his tax evasion
trial he received the points awarded to Will Power who drove in his
place.
Castroneves' teammate Ryan Briscoe will sit on the outside with Scott
Dixon, Dario Franchitti, Danica Patrick, and Dan Weldon rounding out the
first three rows.
Things don't look promising for Sunday's race with a chance of thunder
showers through most of the morning hours, and early afternoon.
If the race does get off it will be televised on ABC starting at 1:00 pm
ET.

06/19: Vickers Continues to Surprise
NCRL-
Last week Brian Vickers put his
Toyota on the pole at Michigan, this week he showed that he can even
turn right as he put the Toyota on the pole for Sunday's Toyota Savemart
350 at Infineon Raceway.
Running a 93.678 mph lap on the Sonoma road course he beat Kyle Busch by
.215 seconds.
Following Vickers and Busch was Australian Marcos Ambrose, points leader
Tony Stewart, and Kasey Kahne to round out the top five spots.
Regarding the the road course experts Boris Said placed the best
starting from the ninth spot. For the rodies who race in the Cup
series that most expect to qualify Juan Montoya will start from the 17th
spot, Sam Hornish in the 18th A.J. Allmendinger in the 20, and Robbie
Gordon starting in the 22nd. Of course one thing can be expected
and that is some wild racing in the early going with this group.
Jeff Gordon who has a number of road course wins will start from the
13th spot.
Most of the other right turn drivers qualified outside of the top 25.
It was very disappointing for Scot Speed who had a top five qualifying
run going when he lost control and slid off course late in his run.
As a result of his position currently being outside of the top 35 in
owner's points he failed to make the race.
Race Weather.net is calling for a picture perfect Sunday with
temperatures in the mid to high 70's and sunny.
You can catch the race on Sunday starting at 4:30 pm ET on TNT.

06/14: Martin Steals the Win
NCRL-
In what appeared to be yet
another typically boring Michigan race with Jimmie Johnson jumping to
the lead on the ninth lap and then settling in to lead a total of 146 of
the 200 laps. There were only three cautions two for debris and
one on lap 150 when David Stremme who spun in turn four.
But, that caution would set up what this race would be remembered for a
fifty lap fight between Greg Bifle and Jimmie Johnson, both of which
would have nothing to do with the out come.

On lap 156 they would go back to green with Greg Biffle, a favorite,
winning the race out of the pits and taking the lead for the first time,
and Johnson would be in third behind Denny Hamlin.
By lap 177 Biffle, is ahead of Mark Martin by 1.5 seconds with Johnson
making a run on Martin.
Johnson would get by Martin for second on the next lap. He then
set his sights on Biffle cutting Biffle's lead to just .03 seconds by
lap- 189.
Fuel was becoming a major issue as no one has pitted since the last
caution on lap 154. The fun would start between Biffle and Johnson
as the laps ticked off.
When they were at 10 laps to go Biffle was still the leader, but Johnson
had worked his way to the back of Biffle's car. Biffle's pit boss
tells him he has saved about two laps of fuel and to go all out. This
may be good as Johnson may have a major fuel window problem. But, the
bigger question is do they both have enough?
With both drivers racing hard at lap seven Johnson and Biffle would be
side-by-side. Johnson would get lose and had to fall back.
But on the next lap he would get under Biffle and take back the lead.
While this is going on Martin is frustrated as he appears to have the
better car but is in full fuel mode to protect his points.
With three laps to go Johnson had opened up a nice led over Biffle and
appeared to be on his way to a win until on the white flag lap he would
run out of fuel and fall off the pace. Biffle would jet by Johnson
as he slowed. But, it wouldn't be a win for Biffle as he would run
out of fuel as a hard charging Mark Martin was coming up on his rear.
Martin would make the pass and coast to the checkered flag as he ran out
of fuel coming out of turn four.
Behind Martin was teammate Jeff Gordon who had started from the rear of
the filed for changing his engine.
Denny Hamlin finally picked up a good finish in third with Carl Edwards,
and Greg Biffle rounding out the top five spots.
Johnson who would dominate the race would pit and take a splash of fuel
to make it across the finish line, finishing in the 22 spot.
This win was Martin's first win at Michigan in 11 years. He would only
lead two laps.
The race saw six leaders and 11 lead changes and took only 2 hours and
34 minutes.
Next week it will be time to turn right as they are off to Sonoma..
Viv'la France: Peugeot Wins
NCRL-
It was all France as Peugeot win
the over all 24 hours at Le Mans. They would complete the 24 hour
race finishing first, and second.
The Peugeot teams were the strongest all weekend with the #8 driven by
Sarrazin, Montagny, and Bourdais take the pole. The favorites Audi
were second on the grid with Capello, Kristensen, and McNish.

For Audi they never early had what they needed to catch the Peugeot who
were like rabbits from the start of the race. After the first hour
the #8 Peugeot lead the two Audis by almost two minutes. While the
Peugeots were expected to be fast the Audis were though to be a better
all-around car.,
By the second hour the #9 Peugeot moved into the second spot as the
Peugeot now ran one-two. The #9 would gain the lead during hour four and
set themselves up for their winning run.
For Audi things were not good from the start as the #3 Audi driven by
Alexandre Premat skidded into the the sand only 15 minutes into the
start of the race.
A pit crash that involved the Peugeot team's # 7 when they were hit by
the Pescarolo Peugeot just under 40 minutes into the race.
A major crash took place in the early morning hours for the #17 Peugeot
of Pescarolo driven by Benoit Treluyer brought out a full course caution
for 45 minutes. Treluyer was cut from the car and transported to
the medical center. Treluyer was shaken but emerged unhurt
according to trackside reports.
The race would come to an end with the Team Peugeot winning its first Le
Mans in 16 year.
In GT1 the Corvette Racing team's final GT1 race ended with the expected
win of the class. While they started with two cars only winning
car finished. The #63 with Jan Magnussen, Johnny O’Connell, and
Antonio Garcia driving.
The car would come into the pits with only 20 minutes let to clean the
Vet up for its photo op as it took the checked flag.
The LMP2 winners were Team Essex's RS Spyder Porsche.

06/13: Hunter-Reay Gets Full-Time Ride
NCRL-
What ever the real reasons for
the Foyt/Tracy split were it appears that it was big enough that Paul
Tracy isn't going to be back in that seat. A.J. Foyt has announced
that Ryan Hunter-Reay will be driving the ABC Supply car for the
remainder of the IRL season.
- Speaking of Tracy
NCRL-
For Paul Tracy it appears
that Jimmy Vasser's KV Racing might be close to a deal to race at
Watkins Glen.
Tracy and Vasser also have a deal for the two races in Canada.
- GM to Cut Back on Racing
NCRL-
Everyone has been waiting to
see if the financial troubles at General Motors world touch their
racing program, and it appears that it has. GM will be cutting its
factory support for the NASCAR Nationwide and Craftsman Truck series.
Now the question is when will the other shoe drop for the Cup series?
It appears that it isn't very far away.
The potential impact on NASCAR will likely be felt more at the small
team levels first. Then depending on how deep the cuts go it could also
hit the bigger teams.
Ford who is the only US car manufacture who has not filed for bankruptcy
or taken any of the bailout money stopped its support of the Craftsman
series. For Chrysler nothing has changed yet, but a precursor may
have been seen at Petty who has cut back on their operations.
Toyota is still moving forward with nothing be said about their racing
concerns at this time.

06/12: Vickers Pull Down the Pole

At a track that has been
predominantly dominated by the Roush boys it was a Toyota that picked up
Sunday's pole spot. Brian Vickers would run a 189.110 mph lap to
beat another Toyota driven by Kyle Busch by .116 mph.
Jimmie Johnson, David Reutimann, and Kyle's older brother Kurt rounded
out the top five spots.
The best Ford was a Roush car driven by Matt Kenseth who will start from
the 16th spot.
Points leader Tony Stewart will begin Sunday's race in the 11th while
second place Jeff Gordon will start from the rear after blowing his
engine during practice.
Sunday's Race Weather.net
prediction is for partly cloudy with a chance of, yes,
showers.

NCRL-
You would think that Danica
Patrick was fist in points rather than fifth with no wins so far this
year. But, can take the thunder away from just about anyone in
racing.
So, here is the latest. No, not NASCAR, not the F1 just staying in the
IRL but the rumors now have her moving over to Ganassi in 2010.
It was reported on Speedtv.com that Patrick's agent is in discussions
with Ganassi for a third car.
The possible key her will be sponsorship for a third car, and Patrick
has no problems with that. There is a possible deal already be
brokered between her and a major Fortune 500 company.

06/09 Mayfield Tested for Meth
NCRL-
ESPN The Magazine has been
reported to say that it was methamphetamine that Jeremy Mayfield tested
positive for, and was suspended on May 9th.
Mayfield has continued to claim that his test was the result of the
prescription drug Adderall-XR and the over-the-counter Clartin-D which
he took for allergies.
A third drug was found from the urine-based test at Richmond and has not
been identified. It has also been redacted from the court
documents and is currently part of a gag order issued by the court.
Per ESPN it was the methamphetamine. Neither NASCAR or Mayfield
can comment as the case is being appealed through the Mecklenburg
Superior Court of North Carolina.
This information has not be confirmed.
- Fallout from Busch's Who Imitation
NCRL-
Kyle Busch is only 24 years old
and he drivers like he's well beyond his age. But, then again he
can be what he is a multimillionaire kid. And he proved that again
after winning the race at Nashville June 6th and then taking the trophy
a vintage Gibson Les Paul guitar painted no less than by renowned NASCAR
artist Sam Bass and smashed it on the ground destroying it before
tossing it aside.
Wow, how to win friends and influence fans. Pretty much everyone
knows what he was doing, but really?
Busch was reported to say that he has had so much trouble at Nashville
he had told his team if he should ever win he would destroy the Les Paul
trophy.
Regardless of his motives this was possibly the dumbest thing he has
ever done. I guess everyone should look out if he should win the
Daytona 500 he just might try and see if the the Harley J. Earl Daytona
500 Trophy can fly.

06/08: Will Penske Run Saturn?
NCRL-
As the American auto industry is
faltering Roger Penske announced that he has struck a deal with GM to
purchase their Saturn brand.
Question Will Penske run the Saturn in NASCAR? the answer is
highly unlikely.
Penske still has a three year contract with Dodge/Chrysler and is very
happy with his deal. He has indicated that they still expect to
continue in NASCAR.
Unlike Richard Petty Motorsports, Penske is much more solvent being able
to continue with the issues swirling around the Chrysler company.
Of course this was before the stay was ordered in the Chrysler - Fiat
deal.
- Economy and Chrysler Bankruptcy Hits Petty
NCRL-
Richard Petty Motorsports laid
off nine employees today and slashed salaries throughout the
organization, due to the Chrysler's bankruptcy filing.
The teams Dodges are owned by Chrysler who has filed Chapter 11
bankruptcy and is currently looking at a possible buyout by Fiat.
The team fields cars for Kasey Kahne, Elliott Sadler and A.J.
Allmendinger, who have contacts through 2010. Reed Sorenson, has a
contact for this season. A problem may exist for Allmendinger
since Petty has only committed to field his car through the 26th race of
the season.
The team has also had issues falling behind with the new Dodge engine.
They didn't have enough of the new motors for Kahne and/or the others to
use at Pocono, and it is doubtful that they will bring any to Michigan.
It is very possible that they may drop one of the teams at any time.
GM has also filed for Chapter 11 it is unclear at this time how that may
impact teams who are running those teams.

06/07: Stewart Gets His Win
NCRL-
It all came down to fuel, and
Tony Stewart would cruise to his first win as an owner/driver beating
Carl Edwards.
For Stewart things didn't necessarily look very good early on.
While rain put in on him on the pole for today's race he would have to
go to a backup car to start the race and begin from the rear of the
filed.
When the race started Jeff Gordon was the leader but would turn that
over to his teammate Jimmie Johnson on lap 6 for Johnson he would hold
it until lap 38 when Greg Biffle would get by him but he would fight
back to keep the lead going back to the line. While Johnson and
Biffle battled a strong Carl Edwards would catch both and going low for
the lead for the first time.

Edwards would settle in leading the field until the fifth caution on lap
148 for debris. With all of the leaders in for service on lap 159
it would be Stewart as the new leader. Jeff Gordon would stay on the
track as a light rain would start to fall. But, the rain would
pass quickly and Gordon would slip into the pits on lap 160 to top off.
For Stewart and Edwards lap 169 would be the last time they came to the
pits.
As the race wound down fuel became the issue. No one was sure if
any of the leaders could make it.
With five laps to go Stewart was still the leader running over four
seconds ahead of Edwards who was now starting to battle Johnson.
Stewart would start to run vary slow lifting off the throttle when ever
he came off the straightaway.
On the whit flag lap Johnson who was still battling Edwards would run
out of fuel and finish seventh.
For Stewart he would continue on to win beating Edwards by over two
seconds.
David Reutimann, Jeff Gordon, and Stewart teammate Ryan Newman would
round out the top five spots.
There would be 12 leaders and 22 lead changes with Carl Edwards leading
the most laps with 103. There were 5 cautions for a total of only
20 laps.
Stewart remains the points leader with Gordon 71 points behind him.

06/06:Texas Shootout
FORT WORTH, Texas - Third victory
at Indianapolis. His third at Texas Motor Speedway. Helio Castroneves
likes the karma associated with the No. 3 car so far this season.
Castroneves swiped the lead off a Lap 175 pit stop and went on to a
0.3904-of-a-second victory over Team Penske teammate Ryan Briscoe in the
Bombardier Learjet 550k under the stadium lights and a full moon. Scott
Dixon, the 2008 race winner, was third and Marco Andretti finished a
season-high fourth.
"I drove it like I stole it," said Castroneves, who wouldn't hear a word
to the contrary from his second-year teammate. (IndyRacing.com)

06/05: Update: Qualifying Rained Out
NCRL-
It's official yet another Cup
race starting grid determined by rain. On going showers some heavy
at times has resulted in NASCAR setting Sunday's race grid by points.
Tony Stewart will be on the pole followed by Jeff Gordon, Jimmie
Johnson, Kurt Busch, and Ryan Newman rounding out the tip five spots.
Sunday's forecast from Race Weather.net calls for a partly cloudy day
with an increased chance of showers later in the day.
The race can be seen on on TNT starting at 12:30 pm ET.
- Rain
NCRL-
It is highly unlikely that
qualifying will take place today. Rain is currently falling and
expected to continue through the evening hours. If it does not
clear NASCAR will once again set the grid by points putting new points
leader Tony Stewart on the pole.
Updates fourth coming.

06/02:
The Danica Factor:
Patrick and NASCAR
NCRL-
Commentary
This story will not die.
Danica Patrick and a possible move to NASCAR is back in the news. It
appears that after her third place finish at the Indy 500 and a
subsequent fifth place finish last weekend at the Milwaukee Mile has
resulted in the press thinking that maybe she can drive now.

Other factors that have added to this frenzy is that she is currently in
the last year of her contract with Andretti/Green Racing. Then there is
the issue with the George Family. It appears that this group just can
not leave well enough alone. After years of battling with Champ Cars in
who would win the American Open-Wheel war and coming out victories. The
family is now fighting over control of the IRL's crown jewel the
Indianapolis Speedway.
It was reported that Tony George was fired from the Speedway's CEO
position last week. But, by that afternoon he told the press not so. Who
knows what will come out of this soap opera.
With the uncertainties within the George family, the Speedway and the
IRL it is just one more thing to fuel the Danica manna.
The bigger question is why would she want to make such a move. One thing
that has been an issue from the day she started in the IRL is her size
and weight. Racing a top of the technology world race car that is
lighter, faster, and move maneuverable than a Cup car leaves the
question can she muscle a Cup car around an oval for 500 miles, or even
a road course that has fewer laps? That is a question that will need to
be answered well before a team might take the chance.
A large number of open-wheel drivers have attempted the transition but
have not been able to make the move for any number of reasons. However,
the one thing they all say is that driving a Cup car was much harder
than what they expected.
Rather than a move to stock cars it would make a lot more sense if she
jumped to F1. These cars are more like what she currently drives. And it
has been said that where F1 currently is technologically the cars almost
drive themselves. But, even here any number of American drivers who have
made the move to F1 very few have made any impression on the series.
Let's hope that the IRL doesn't implode over a family feud, and
Andretti/Green make an offer that she can not refuse. Danica is good for
open-wheel racing. Sure, she would bring the media with her and she
would become a NASCAR rock star but NASCAR fans lose patience quickly if
you don't win (except for Junior). If she should make the move and fail
that would be what she will most likely be remembered for rather than
the best woman driver in racing as she is now.
- NASCAR Asks that Mayfield Case Be Moved
NCRL-
The Jeremy Mayfield case is
taking another twist. It has been reported that NASCAR has asked
that the case regarding Mayfield's indefinite suspension due to failing
the NASCAR drug policy be moved to federal court. This could
result in keeping him out of his car for another week.
The request by NASCAR came just a day
before a North Carolina Superior Court hearing was to be scheduled.
NASCAR's action stayed that preceding.
It is now unlikely that Mayfield will race at Pocono as his attorney
will need to fight the case in the federal court or petition to have it
moved back to the state court.
- Tracy and Foyt Pass
NCRL-
Paul Tracy is back out of a
ride. After his 17th place finish last Sunday A.J. Foyt Racing
told Tracy that they would nit need his services.
He will be replaced by Foyt's grandson A.J. Foyt IV this weekend at
Texas.
Foyt was reported to tell Tracy that he didn't have equipment that was
up to par for Tracy and they needed to work on that.

05/31: It was all Johnson
NCRL-
It
was a Jimmie Johnson day as he dominates for the win. He would
lead 298 of the 400 laps at the Monster Mile in Dover.
It would take Jimmie Johnson 50 laps to
get to the front and start his domination of the field. He and
Greg Biffle would battle until Johnson after the green lag fell on lap
49.

Johnson would then settle in giving up the lead mostly when he pitted.
It never really took Johnson long to regain the lead whenever he lost
it; that's just how dominate he was all day.
But, on lap 363 a yellow came out that would set up a great race finish.
When the leaders came in for what was the last set of stops Johnson
would pick up four tires and get a chassis adjustment. Greg Biffle
would beat everyone out of the pits and Johnson would come out in the
ninth spot.
The last caution of the race came out on lap 370. The leaders
stayed out and Biffle, Stewart, Newman, Kahne, and Kurt Busch were the
top five when they went back green. Johnson was still tied up in
the eight spot and looked like his most laps lead was for nothing.
But, Johnson who was the fastest car all day started to cut his way
through traffic to the front.
As Johnson was on the move Biffle and Stewart were in a battle for the
lead. On lap 391 Stewart would get by Biffle on the low side and
take the lead. Johnson would slid into second and go after
Stewart.
The two drivers would battle until lap 390 when Johnson would get by
Stewart and drive away to the win. He would win by .860 over
Stewart.
Behind the two Biffle, Kenseth, and Kurt Busch would round out the top
five spots.
For Stewart his second place finish would move him into the points lead.
For Jeff Gordon he would be happy too get out of Dover. He was in
a crash during qualifying, and never really was in play all day
finishing 26th and two laps down.
The race would have 11 leaders, with 25 lead changes, and 10 cautions.
- Dixon Steal Win at Milwaukee
NCRL-
Scott Dixon would make a dramatic
pass on lap 201 getting by the race leader of Ryan Briscoe to gain the
led and then would settle in to pick up his second win of the season.
Briscoe who picked up the pole was the car to beat as he would lead the
most laps of the race but it would be all for not as Dixon would make a
run and get by him. Dixon would go on to a 2.1257 second win over
Briscoe.
Dario Franchitti, Graham Rahal, and Danica Patrick rounded out the top
five.
Dixon's win moves him into the points lead over Franchitti.
________________________________________________
05/30: Briscoe Blisters the Track for the Pole
NCRL-
Ryan Briscoe who won the ABC
Supply/AJ Foyt 225 last year really likes the track. He would put
up a lap speed of 168.394 mph to not only take the pole for Sunday but
breaking a four lap track record.
Graham Rahal will start from the outside with Tony Kanaan and Scot Dixon
in row two. Mario Moraes, and Hideki Mutoh round out the third
row.
Last weeks Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves will start from the 20th
position in row 10 after slapping the wall in turn two on his first
qualifying attempt.
Current points leader Dario Franchitti will start from the fourth row in
position eight.
Sunday's race will be televised on ABC starting at 3:30 pm ET.
Mayfield Loses Stay Gets Trial
NCRL-
Mecklenburg County Superior Court
Judge Forrest Bridges has set a hearing for Wednesday declining a stay
because the Mayfield team is not racing this weekend. A different
judge will hear Wednesday's case.
Mayfield's case claims that NASCAR failed to follow their own testing
policies leaving Mayfield no defense to prove innocence.

05/29: Reutiman Continues Success
NCRL-
Last Monday's rain shortened 600
in Charlotte saw David Reutimann make the best out of it staying on the
track to win the race. Well, he continues his streak by claiming
the pole for this Sunday's Autism Speaks 400 at Dover. With a
156.794 mph run he bested Kasey Kahne by .037 seconds.
Behind Reutimann and Kahne are the hard charging Juan Pablo Montoya,
Reed Sorenson, and Greg Biffle rounding out the top five spots.
Point leader Jeff Gordon will start 42nd and have to start from the rear
after slamming into the outside wall in turn two and need to go to a
back up car on race day.
For Dale Earnhardt Jr. he qualified in the 22nd spot with his new crew
chief.
Race Weather.net is calling for
partly sunny skies and 79 degrees for race day.
The race can be viewed on FOX starting at 1:30 pm ET.
- Eury Fired
NCRL-
In less than one day team owner
Rick Hendrick announced that he had fired Tony Eury Jr. to try and put
Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the #88 Chevy back on track. The removal
will be effective this weekend at Dover. Team Manager Brian Whitesell
will take over the duties in the pit box. Whitesell will be
replaced by Lance McGrew how has had prior crew chief experience after
Dover.
Eury isn't totally out of the organization he will be working with
Jimmie Johnson next week on road course testing due to Chad Knaus being
out of pocket.
Earnhardt has been in somewhat of a free fall most of this season.
However, things weren't great last year either. While Earnhardt made the
Chase last year he finished last and never was really an impact driver.
Whitesell indicated that he thought that some of the problems for the
#88 team came from Earnhardt and Eury being family.
In a related story Kyle Busch who was traded by Hendrick to make room
for Earnhardt took the opportunity to take some shoots at Earnhardt and
Hendrick considering his current rise in the NASCAR standings.

05/27: Gordon's Hopes Dashed by NASCAR
NCRL-
Robby Gordon one of the few
owner/drivers had thought that his inspection after NASCAR impounded his
car after Monday's postponed Coca-Cola 600 would not be result in
any issues, as his car passed both the pre and post race height
inspections. His guess was wrong.
NASCAR penalized Gordon and his #7 Crew Chief for his rear axle housing
exceeding the maximum specified toe of plus or minus one degree.
Gordon will lose 50 owner points and 50 driver points, and his crew
chief Kirk Almquist was fined $50,000.00 and placed on probation until
December 31, 2009.
There is now word at this time if Gordon will appeal the decision
- Eury Jr. Future is Questionable
NCRL-
So what's the deal with
Junior? Wasn't the move to Hendrick all he needed for a Cup
Championship? Well the way things have been going he may end up
being just an asterisk as an also ran.
He has been the least productive driver for the Hendrick Team all year.
Mark Martin who was expected to just run another season, as the fourth
team, well he signed a new 2010 full year contract and has won two
races and is currently sitting in the 12th spot for the Chase.
So, I ask again what's the deal with Junior? It seems like every
race he has some type of car problems. Well, this would start to make an
owner think maybe its the crew chief.
Hendrick has been a supporter of Tony Eury Jr. since he came with the
Earnhardt Jr. deal. Eury, Earnhardt's cousin has been working with
Junior for a long time. So, when the question came up in a press
conference Hendrick was not as strong on Eury as in the past.
Hendrick indicated that there hasn't been any changes to the #88 team he
would not give the crew chief a thumbs up. In fact he indicated
that Junior may have a new crew chief for Dover this weekend.
Story developing.

05/26: Third Place Finisher Gordon's
Car Impounded
NCRL-
Will NASCAR give a little guy a
break? Robby Gordon who had been running in the 20th position most
of the day would make a call to stay out as rain was building in
yesterday's 600. That call give him a third place finish.
But, wait maybe not.
NASCAR in post race inspection noted what they thought there might be an
issue with his Toyota's rear axle housing. Oh, no... A
twentieth place car finishes third, there must of been a good reason.
Yes there was, rain. He gambled and stayed out to pick up the
third place finish.
It wasn't like Gordon came out in the 40th position and just drove to
the win in a 600 mile race. No, the race just went over half-way
and he made a call to stay out and bet on the rain. If the race
would have restated it was more likely that he would have finished where
he raced for most of the day in the 20s.
Gordon has indicated that he feels that there will not be any issues as
his car passed both the pre and post race height inspections. But,
NASCAR will inspect, (teardown) Gordon's car this week at their
development center and any possible penalties will come out later this
week.

- Riggs and Baldwin Part Ways
NCRL-
Owner Tony Baldwin and Scott
Riggs agreed that Monday's 600 at Lowe's would be their last run
together. And o sooner did the race end than Baldwin announced that
their will be three drivers sitting in the Toyota.
Baldwin announced that Mike Skinner, who is also running in the
Craftsman Truck series, Patrick Carpentier,
and Brian Simo will share the
seat.
Skinner will be behind the wheel this coming weekend at Dover and then
17 more. Carpentier will be at both Pocono races, the June New
Hampshire race as well as Richmond, and the September Dover race.
For Simo an accomplished road racer will be the pick for the two
upcoming road races at Infineon, and Watkins Glen.

05/25: Reutimann's Pit Strategy Gives
Him His First Win
NCRL-
In what was a NASCAR marathon
David Reutimann would find himself leading after more rain begin.
The sixth caution and fourth for rain would come out on lap 221. Reutimann's team made the decision that since they would have to come in
for service they might as well take a chance that the rain would
continue. The red flag came out on lap 227 at 4:19 pm ET, and it
would remain red until the race was called at 6:26 pm ET, giving the #00
Toyota the win.

The race got underway at 12:12 pm today after being delayed from last
nights rains. The weather reports were not really very good for the area
with a 60 plus per cent chance of rain and thunderstorms. But, the
Cup teams rolled out and then abruptly came under the caution on lap
seven when rain started to fall in turn two.
They went back to green flag racing with Kyle Busch the leader.
Busch would lead until a competition yellow allowing the teams to fuel
their cars for the first time. They would go back green with Tony
Raines now in the lead, but he would give it up to Jimmie Johnson
when he went to the pits.
Busch would regain the lead on lap 48 and hold it until more rain fell
on lap 71. NASCAR would drop the red flag at 1:06 pm as they
worked on the track to get back underway. They would get back to
racing on lap 80 after the yellow came out at 2:02 pm.
Things would settle in as Busch and Brian Vickers would swap the lead.
NASCAR would again fly the red flag, but this one was for a moment of
silence for a Memorial Day tribute. They would go back green but
the leaders would come in for service on lap 168. two laps later
rain would return, and the red flag would come out again on lap 177.
They would remain under red 22 minutes before they would go racing again
with Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, and Juan
Pablo Montoya the top five.
On lap 220 the rain comes back and the leaders would pit with Reutimann,
Ryan Newman, Robby Gordon, remaining on the track. The red
flag would come out for the last time and NASCAR would call the race
after a long red flag period.
Reutimann, Newman, Gordon, Edwards, and Vickers would be the top five
when the race ended.
They would only get 227 laps in of the 400 scheduled laps. There were 11
leaders and 15 lead changes. Six cautions four of which were for
rain.
Kyle Busch would lead the most laps with 173 but finish sixth.
For Reutimann, this was his first Cup win and it the first win for team
owner Michael Waltrip it was also Toyota's first win at Lowe's.

05/24: It's Raining In Charlotte Race
Monday
NCRL-
The Indy 500 missed the rain but
that isn't the story for the 600 at Lowe's. NASCAR has postponed
the longest Cup race of the year until Monday at 12:00 pm ET.
Rain showed up shortly after the opening ceremonies and national anthem
but the rain would fall bring the racing to a stop.
NASCAR tried to dry the track but more rain would put an end to any
attempt to get the race in today.
Race Weather.net is calling for
even more rain for tomorrow with a 60% chance of thunderstorms and rain.
The projection is for a 60% chance through Tuesday.
- Castroneves Picks Up 3rd 500
NCRL-
In a storybook finish Helio
Castroneves picked up his third Indy 500 win after having a so so race.
It all turned around after a late race pit stop where he would blow by
Scott Dixon to regain the lead.
Castroneves would have an early win when he was fund not guilty of
federal tax evasion charges and would return to racing. He would
go on next to pick-up the pole for the 500 and end the race with the
win.
The race would start with a crash between Marco Andretti and Marco
Moraes came together before the first lap. Both drivers would be
done for the day.
Early in the race Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon appeared to be the
drivers to beat as both broke away from the filed. But, a late
race move by Team Ganassi would keep Dixon from getting new tires with
39 laps to go. He would fall to sixth.
His teammate Franchitti would have a pit stop issue when would jump his
stop while he was still being fueled. As a result would finish
seventh.
Crashes took out a number of drivers who had big hopes this 550.
Tony Kanaan continued to have his Indy bad luck as something broke and
his car veered into the outside wall.
Graham Rahal would get loose and hit the outside wall ending his day.
But, the scariest crash came on lap 173 when Victor Meira and Raphael
Matos touched tiers sending both cars into the wall. Meira would
be removed from his car and transported to a nearby hospital. He
was diagnosed with two broken vertebrae but would not need surgery.
After the caution for the Meira Matos crash they would go back to green
with Castroneves getting a big jump on Dan Weldon and Danica Patrick.
Weldon and Patrick would get racy over the second place spot allowing
Castroneves to pretty much check out. Castroneves would pick up
the pace and cross the finish line 1.9819 seconds in front of Weldon.
Castroneves' win places him one race away from the only three drivers to
win four 500's A.J. Foyt, Al Unser, and Rick Mears.
-Rain in Possible for Both the
500 and 600
NCRL-
Thunderstorms and rains may play
a part at both the Indianapolis 500 and he Coca-Cola 600. Storms
are building south of both tracks with the possibilities of moving in
during both races.
At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway the prediction for possible
thunderstorms is around 3:00 pm. But, a major line of rain is
building south of Indianapolis in Kentucky and moving north.
Things may be a bit more problematic. for the 600 as there is currently
a 80per cent chance of rain and thunderstorms today. A major
band is as of 9:15 am ET today just outside of Charlotte but appears to
be moving away from the track in Concord.

seconds. Behind Newman and Busch were Jeff Gordon who is on the

05/20: Gordon Undergoes Back Procedure
NCRL-
Jeff Gordon has been suffering
from continues back problems that have become worse over time. He
under went a medical procedure on Monday that he hopes will reduce his
problems.
The procedure was a facet block procedure. An injection is done to
a selective nerve root to help therapeutically relive the lower back
pain.
Gordon hopes the treatment will end his back issues. But, it will
take some time to determine if it worked.
He set up the procedure to help relive the pine for this weekends
longest NASCAR Cup race the Coca Cola 600.
- Mayfield Continues Defense
NCRL-
The continuing saga of
NASCAR's suspension of Jeremy Mayfield has a new chapter. His
attorney requested and received a copy of the toxicology report.
Mayfield continues to say that it was a combination of over-the-counter
medications and prescription drugs. He also said that he has never
been told just what he was tested for or what it was that triggered the
result.
The testing company continues to contradict Mayfield statements.
Dr. David Black the CEO of the company that does NASCAR's testing said
that he specifically identified the drug in conversations with Mayfield
over a three day period.
Continuing.

05/17: Indy Field Set After Bump Day
NCRL-
The last spots for the 500 may
well be the hardest fought of all. And, like any fight there are winner
and losers, just talk to Alex Tagliani, Stanton Barrett, and 1996 500
winner Buddy Lazier. All three drivers failed to make the grade
and will be watching May 24th when the green flag flies.
There were eight drivers fighting for a spot. For almost six hours
they would bump and be bumped. When the dust cleared the big winners
were John Andretti, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Mika Duno, Nelson Phillipe, E.J.
Viso, and Bruno Junqueira.
But, for Junqueira's efforts they will be for not as he will be replaced
by Alex Tagliani. Tagliani is the primary driver for Conquest
Racing and was attempting to put the teams second car in the filed.
However, with only one car going to the 500 it will be driven by
Tagliani.
- De Ferran. Pagenaud Win in Utah
NCRL-
The team of Gil De Ferran and
Simon Pagenaud dominated the Utah Grand Prix. This was their
second American Le Mans victory this year as they would finish 1 minute
and 13 seconds ahead of Patron Highcroft Racing's David Brabham and
Scott Sharp.
Adrian Fernandez, and Luis Diaz would pick up the win n the LMP-2 class

05/16: Stewart Wins
NCRL-
Owner/Driver Tony Stewart
would make a late race pass on Matt Kenseth with two laps to go to win
the All-Star Race.

segment and leading all the laps.
In the second segment Kyle Busch would take only two tires for track
position and come out of the pits the leader. He would go on to
win the 20 lap second leg.
When they came out in the third segment he would continue to lead for
the first ten laps but Jeff Gordon would catch him and take the lead and
the win the second leg.
After a break they would come back out for a ten lap shootout. And
this was what it was all about.
The big moment came with a hard charging Ryan Newman sliding up on the
outside of Kurt Busch, with Jeff Gordon just below Busch on the inside.
As they came into the turn three wide they would all get together with
Gordon spinning onto the grass and ending up back on the track with
major damage ending his night.
When they went back green Busch would be the leader with Newman on the
outside. But, Newman's car had experienced to much damage and he
went behind the wall; he would finish 18th.
With six laps left Matt Kenseth would get around a limping Kurt Busch
and take the lead. Shortly after that Tony Stewart would also pass
Busch for second.
Stewart and Kenseth would battle for the lead with Stewart making a pass
low on Kenseth with only two laps left, and then checking out as he
would win his first All-Star race and take home a $1 Million.
Kenseth would hold onto second, with Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Carl
Edwards rounding out the top five.

This puts Kirk Shelmerdine on the pole followed by Carl Long, David
Stremme, Dave Blaney, and Scott Riggs rounding the top five spots.

05/11: Mayfield Challenges NASCAR Drug
Policy
NCRL-
Jeremy Mayfield has
challenged NASCAR's drug policy and his test by claiming that the use of
two allergy medications was what led to his failure of the policy.
However, David Black who's lab conducts the NASCAR testing refutes
Mayfield's claim.
Black has been reported to say that in his many years of experience he
has never seen two over-the-counter products used at the same time
result in a violation.
While NASCAR currently does not have a set list of banded substances the
ones that drivers we told of at the beginning of the season were
steroids, amphetamines and recreational drugs.
Mayfield couldn't be reached for comment

05/10: Martin Wins Second at
Darlington
NCRL-
It was a Darlington night
just about everything that could happen would happen. But, the
Lady in Black would smile on the 50 year old veteran Mark Martin as he
crossed the finish line to win his second race of the year.

Martin's run would begin when he took over the lead after the 15th
caution for debris on lap 319. When they went back to racing Martin, who
stayed out, would bring Jimmie Johnson, Ryan Newman, Brad Keselowski,
and Denny Hamlin to the green on lap 325. From that point forward
he would hold off a strong challenge from his teammate Johnson but never
give it up.
There would be two more cautions but Martin and Johnson both would
remain on the track as the other drivers would make stops for late race
service.
It would become a little scary for Martin when his team told him to
conserve fuel. But, luck would be on Martin's side as Johnson
would tell his team that he just didn't have anything for Martin and
backed off allowing Martin to conserve, and from that point on it was
all Martin.
The race would start with Matt Kenseth bring the field to the green
flag. He would hold the lead until Jeff Gordon passed him on lap
17.
Jimmie Johnson, who started from the rear of the field, would remain on
the track after Michael Waltrip spun to bring out the second caution of
the race. Johnson would lead from lap 23 but turn it over to Ryan
Newman on lap 25.
For Greg Biffle it looked like the race would be his when he took over
the lead on lap 122 winning the race out of the pits after caution
number five. Biffle would settle in and lead until lap 214 after
caution number 9. He would take four tires while Martin Truex Jr.
would only take two and win the race out of the pits.
Truex would settle in and he would run up front until the 11th caution.
Biffle would win the race out of the pits and regain the lead.
On lap 275 Jamie McMurray would blow a tire to bring out the 12th
caution. Biffle would lose the the lead to Rookie Joey Logano who
beat him out of the pits.
Truex would regain the lead on lap 297 when he stayed on the track after
the 14th caution.
Mark Martin would stay on the track when the 15th caution came out and
would never look back as he drove to the win.
Jimmie Johnson would finish second followed by Tony Stewart, Ryan
Newman, and Jeff Gordon rounding out the top five spots.
The race would see 13 leaders, with 23 lead changes. Greg Biffle
would lead the most laps with 117 and finish eight. There were 17
caution which is a new Darlington record.
With Martins win he now sits in the 11th spot in the standings.
For points leader Gordon he is now 29 points ahead of owner/driver Tony
Stewart.

05/09: Mayfield Indefinitely Suspended for Substance Abuse
NCRL-
Jeremy Mayfield and two
crewmember have been suspended by NASCAR for failing their Substance
Abuse policy. The suspension of Mayfield impacts him as a driver
as well as an owner.
NASCAR Vice President of Corporate Communication Jim Hunter indicated
that Mayfield failed a test at Richmond last week. When questioned
if the abuse was alcohol related Hunter indicated that it was not.
Mayfield the owner driver of the #41 Toyota was tested twice and both,
once by NASCAR and the second by request of Mayfield. Both tests
came back a positive and were returned on Saturday. The violation
cannot be appealed.
Also suspended were Tony Martin a crewmember of the #34 car of Front Row
Motorsports, and Ben Williams a crewmember of the #16 Nationwide team of
Roush Fenway Racing.
In a statement from Mayfield he indicated that his team will continue to
attempt to qualify for races under the terms of his suspension. He also
indicted that the organization will announce an interim owner and
temporary replacement driver early next week.
- Castroneves on Indy Pole
NCRL-
Helio Castroneves picked up
his third Indy 500 pole this afternoon. Running a four lap average
speed of 224.864 mph was all he needed to take the top spot.
Castroneves has had a crazy year just recently getting acquitted for tax
evasion and now sitting on the pole the day before his 34th birthday.
Also on the front row are Ryan Briscoe and last years 500 winner Dario
Franchitti on the outside.
The second row will consist of Graham Rahal, Newman/Haas/Lanigan, Scott
Dixon, Target Chip Ganassi, and Tony Kanaan, Andretti Green.
Spots 12 through 22 were set on Saturday. Paul Tracy who has not
been at Indy since his controversial loss in 2002 to Helio Castroneves
will start from the 13th spot.

05/08: It's Kenseth on the Pole
NCRL-
Matt Kenseth won the first
two races out of the box this year, but hasn't really had an opportunity
to build on that momentum. Currently sitting on the Chase bubble
he would give himself a little insurance by capturing the pole for this
Saturday night's Southern 500 at Darlington.
Early rains washed-out the Nationwide qualifying and would push the Cup
run to a later start time. Kenseth would roll out 12th in the
postponed qualifying session, and bump then pole leader Kurt Busch out
of the top spot.
Busch who came out in the tenth spot would gain the pole besting
Kenseth's teammate Greg Biffle before losing it to Kenseth and a 179.514
mph lap.
He would settle in with only one real challenge. That would come from
current points leader Jeff Gordon who would post a 178.861 mph lap but
fall .100 seconds behind Kenseth.
Ryan Newman would continue to help impress for the Stewart-Haas picking
up the third spot for Saturday. Rounding out the top five
positions would also surprise as Sam Hornish Jr. and rookie Joey Logano
would finish fourth and fifth respectively.
Two time Darlington winner Jimmie Johnson who came out 37th would get
loose and lose it backing into the outside wall and experienced
extensive damage to his car will start from the 45 spot.
In happy hour a number of other drivers would also find the Lady in
Black not too forgiving as they would find the outside wall.
Saturday's Southern 500's weather will be somewhat iffy as Race
Weather.net is calling for Scattered Showers and thunder storms with
temperatures in the low 90s at race time falling into the high 60s.
You can catch the race on FOX at 7:00 pm ET.
-Kevin Grubb Found Dead
NCRL-
The former NASCAR Cup driver
Kevin Grubb was found dead in a Richmond Va. motel by police.
Grubb had been suspended by NASCAR the result of alleged substance
abuse. He was indefinitely suspended from NASCAR in 2006 for
refusing to comply with the abuse policy of NASCAR. This was his second
run in with NASCAR after being suspended in 2004 after he tested
positive for a banned substance.
He was reinstated in '06 on the condition that he would need to comply
with testing at any time. He refused to be tested in '06 after a
race at the Richmond International Speedway and was subsequently
suspended indefinitely. .
The police did not give a cause of death and indicated that it is an
ongoing death investigation, but there doesn't appear to be anything
unusual or suspicious.
Grubb was 31 years old.

05/06: Martin & Hendrick Revise 2010
Contract
NCRL-
Didn't Mark Martin retire
once? It was announced today that 50 year old Mark Martin will not
run a part-time schedule for Hendrick Motorsports in 2001. No, he
will run a full schedule.
Having a great year so far, one victory, three poles, and five top ten
finishes in ten races, has helped continue his Cup run.
Martin is currently the fourth driver to achieve 400 top ten finish in
his career.
Who will be the sponsor for '10 was not discussed.

05/03: Birthday Boy Busch Wins
NCRL-
In a race that saw 14
cautions Kurt Busch would give himself a birthday present as he ran away
from the filed in Richmond.
Busch's win would cap a three race weekend with wins in all three of his
events. He won last night in the Nationwide race and in the Denny
Hamlin Southside Charity race, then roll to the victory in the Crown
Royal 400.

He also celebrated his 24th birthday with the win and became only the
second driver to win a race on his birthday. Cale Yarborough did
it twice in 1977 and again in 1983.
At first it didn't look like it would end up with a Busch win as local
boy Denney Hamlin would dominate everyone leading the most laps with
148. But, a pit stop problem on lap 274 would end his chances.
Hamlin's bad luck continues at Richmond where he has had very good runs
but none have resulted in a win.
Jeff Gordon also looked good early, but slide back with car issues.
After adjustments he made his way back to the top five and then on lap
308 would remained out as the leaders came in for service. He
would remain in the lead until lap 352 when Busch would pass him on the
outside to take the lead for the last time.
It did look like there was a late run by Jeff Burton, who hat it the
wall earlier in the race, and Tony Stewart. But neither would come
close as Busch stay in front of the two by as much as 3.5 seconds, and
would win by 2.752 seconds over second place Tony Stewart.
Jeff Burton, Stewart teammate Ryan Newman, and Mark Martin would round
out the top five spots.
With Jeff Gordon's eighth place finish he would move back into the
points lead. Jimmie Johnson, who had one of his worst races at
Richmond would finish 36th and fall to sixth in points.
Of note was another nice finish by Sam Hornish Jr. coming in sixth.
The race saw 14 cautions tying a Richmond record, and 22 lead changes
with eight different leaders.
_____________________________________________________
05/02: Vickers Finds Pole
NCRL-
Brian Vickers picked up the
pole for Saturday's nights Crown Royal 400. He would roll out
tenth and then sit back as no one could catch him.
Vickers would run a 127.131 mph lap for the top spot with Jeff Gordon
his closest competitor who would fall to Vickers by .048 seconds.
While Gordon's grid position is usually not a surprise at Richmond it
was today. Gordon has been fighting a back problem that resulted
in an MRI to determine the problem. The pain has not really changed and
was also an issue at Talladega last weekend,. Considering the
impact this Saturday the race could be a real pain for the driver of the
#24.
Rounding out the top five spots are Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr. and
Jeff Burton.
The weather may be another factor this weekend with Race Weather.net
calling for rain both Friday and Saturday. Saturday is looking the
worst out of the two day right now with temperatures in the high 70's to
low 80's and a 60% chance of thunderstorms.
If things go well the race will be televised on FOX starting at 7:00 pm
ET.

Stock car great
Petty ready for first run at Indy 500
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — NASCAR's
greatest driver is coming to the Indianapolis 500.
And Richard Petty is bringing an Andretti along for the ride.
Petty. Andretti.
The family names alone fill pages of stock car and IndyCar history
books. Now two of the most famous names in American auto racing will
again be united at one of the sport's most famous tracks.
For Petty, the Indianapolis 500 offers a whole new kind of racing style
and pageantry. More than 50 years after making his NASCAR driving debut,
Petty will be a rookie at next month's Indianapolis 500, albeit as an
owner. (USAToday.com)

04/25: Rahal Picks Up KC Pole
NCRL-
At 211.311 mph Graham Rahal would
return to the oval track that he debuted on to pick up his second career
IRL pole for Sunday's Road Runner Turbo 300.
Rahal would be the last qualifier today on the KC 1.5 mile course as
rain clouds gathered. His run would knock Long Beach winner Dario
Franchitti of the pole who had set a speed of 210.967 mph.
But, for Franchitti thongs would get worse as the IRL Chief Steward
determined that he and Helio Castroneves both drove below the white line
on their runs and were penalized by having their times thrown out.
Both drivers will start from the rear of the field.
Franchitti's infraction put oval rookie Robert Doombos of Newman/;Haas/Lanlgan
on the outside of Rahal.
Starting in the third spot will be Andretti Green's Danica Patrick,
followed by Dixion, and Patrick's teammate Marco Andretti will round out
the top five spots.
Besides Patrick, two other women will start Sunday. Sarah Fisher
will start in the 11th position with Patrick's nemesis Milka Duno in the
12th.
Sunday's race will be televised on Satellite and Cable's Versus station.
- Montoya Wins the Pole
NCRL-
Open Wheeler Sam Hornish Jr. who
broke into the top ten of a race fro the first time last week in Phoenix
came out today at Talladega and would knock off points leader Jeff
Gordon from the pole. But, he wouldn't hold on to the top spot for
long.
Coming out in the 15th spot Juan Pablo Montoya, another open wheel
convert would put down a 188.171 mph lap to bump Hornish of the pole.
Montoya would then sit back and watch as everyone else would take their
best shoot at him.
It got a little scary for him when Greg Biffle rolled onto the track 15
drivers later and would run 188.141 mph to become the second fastest in
qualifying. For Montoya he would remain on top with no one coming
close after Biffle.
So for Sunday's Aaron's 499 Juan Pablo will lead Biffle, Truex Jr., a
surprising Hornish, and last weekends winner and outspoken critic of the
Talladega race Mark Martin as the top five drivers.
Points leader Gordon will roll off in the 10th spot. His teammate
Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is having a incredibly bad year will start from
the seventh spot hoping that his success at Talladega will bring a much
needed positive result,
Regardless of today's qualifying and congratulations to Juan Pablo, this
is Talladega and where you start usually has very little to do with
where you will finish. The largest and fastest track on the Cup
schedule usually dictates who the winner will be. We can expect a number
of lead changes, drivers who are in front one minute and find themselves
in the rear the next and vice-versa will be the norm. But, of all
the impacts that occur there is always one looming fear from when the
green flies until the checkers fall; The "Big One".
This one almost expected incident will
likely be the overriding result of Sunday's race.
Good luck to all and good, safe, racing.
Our friends at Race Weather.net are calling for a great race day with
temps in the low 80's and partly cloudy skies.
Sunday's race coverage will start at 1:00 pm ET on FOX.

04/22: Mears and Earnhardt Get Slap on
Wrist
NCRL-
In Sunday's Phoenix race Dale
Earnhardt Jr. had an incident with Casey Mears that ended what was a
very good night for Earnhardt. Contact between the two resulted in
Junior crashing and finishing in the 31st spot.
Unhappy Earnhardt intentionally spun Mears while the two were on the
cool down lap. Mears would track Earnhardt down on pit road
passing a number of other cars to bump him in the back of his car.
Well, NASCAR took exceptions to the disagreement and called the two the
the office. However, they indicated Saturday night that they would
not take action. Well, its Tuesday and they changed their minds.
Both drivers have been placed on probation for 6 races starting with
Talladega and ending with Dover. Neither were fined or lost points
as a result. But, NASCAR indicated that after further discussions
it was determined to nip any future issues between the two.

04/19: Franchitti Dominates at Long
Beach
NCRL-
After a year with Chip Ganassi Racing
in the NASCAR Cup series Dario Franchitti came back to the Indy Racing
League after his Cup team could not find sponsorship. Well, it
took him only two races to find the winners podium. In what was a
dominating fashion he would win Sunday's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach
by almost four seconds.

The race would start clean with pole sitter Will Power jumping to a big
lead. Franchitti would fall back to fourth but make his way to
second by the 15th lap. He would pit the next lap after a caution.
Luck would become his friend as after he left the pits a full course
caution would come out. He would take advantage and the lead, and
from that point on it was his race.
Will Power would finish second. The question for Penske Racing is
will they consider a third car. Power is only scheduled for one
more race and that is the Indy 500. But after two races Power is
sitting in second place ahead of his other two teammates., Of
course both races have been on the streets and the League is moving on
to ovals next. We will see.
Finishing in third was Andretti Green driver Tony Kanaan, followed by
teammate Danica Patrick. Both drivers ran a race that had a
different pit strategy than the other teams, and like Franchitti lucky
pit stops and cautions helped put them in the third and fourth place
positions.
Rounding out the top five was Dan Weldon.
A bit of trivia came out of this race. The two best finishes for
Franchitti came when he finished second to Alex ZanardI, and Juan Pablo
Montoya who both drove for Chip Ganassi Racing, and Franchitti's first
Long Beach win would come when he drove for Ganassi.
- Martin Wins!
NCRL-
Say what you want Mark Martin has
looked good all year. He has had trouble with mechanical issues,
but outside that it was just a question of when. Well, that
question is over with his win last night in Phoenix.

In Martin fashion he would sit back through the middle of the race
waiting for the right time. It came on lap 307 with only five laps
to go when he would drive by then leader Ryan Newman who had stayed out
when the leaders came in for a late caution.
It wasn't like he just rope-a-doped the rest of the field Martin would
start from the pole position and lead for the first 102 laps before he
came in after a caution for debris. When they went back green Kurt
Busch would be the leader and have a good run until the fifth caution on
lap 167. Dale Earnhardt Jr. would stay out to take the lead when
the race leaders pitted
On lap 220 Tony Stewart would pass Earnhardt to take the lead for the
first time of the race. Martin would regain the lead on lap 238 a
Stewart got lose in turn four.
Martin would pit on lap 242 for tires and after teams cycled through the
stops Earnhardt would be the leader again. But, Martin would
regain the lead eight laps later.
Tony Stewart would pass Earnhardt for second and things would sty that
way until Earnhardt would spin after Casey Mears made contact.
When they went back green Newman was the leader but would not last long
as both Martin and Stewart would drive by him.
Martin would go on to the victory to be come the third oldest driver to
win a Cup race at 50 years old.
Stewart, Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson, and Greg Biffle rounded out the top
five spots.
The race had 6 cautions.

04/18: de Ferran Wins in Long Beach
NCRL-
It was a 1-2-3 Acura finish with Gill
de Ferran winning his first ALMS race. de Ferran and Simon
Pagenaud
would beat the Patron Highcroft
Racing on the last lap under a caution.
The only caution came out on lap with less than five minutes to race
when Boris Said's LG Motorsports Corvette caught fire. But, it was
Parton Highcourt's 20 second pit stop violation that would set up the de
Ferran win.
de Ferran would re-enter the race with a 18 second lead and stay there
for the rest of the race.
Adrian Fernandez and Luis Diaz won their third straight LMP2 win.
Flying Lizard Motorsports' picked up the win in the GT2 class.
-Castroneves Return Doesn't Bother Power
NCRL-
It was all about the return of Helio
Castroneves to the #3 Penske car. But, someone needed to tell Will
Power.
Power took the wheel of the third Penske car the #12 Verizon entry and
proceeded to take the pole. This is his first IRL Sanctioned pole
and he did it with a 101.63 mph lap on the temporary street circuit in
Long Beach.
Darior Franchittie picked up the outside spot followed by R. Raphal
Matos, E.J. Viso, and Justin Wilson in the top five spots.
Castroneves will start from the 8th spot.

Sunday's Toyota Grand Prix as he was acquitted by the 12 member jury on
most of the Federal charges.
The jury found Castroneves, his sister, and lawyer not guilty on six
counts of tax evasion, and were hung on the charge of conspiracy.
The ever emotional Castroneves who is known to brake down pretty much
when ever he wins a race sobbed and leaned on his attorney for support
as the verdict was read.
He was reported to say that rather than going to Disneyland he was going
to Long Beach to race.
- Martin sits on Phoenix Pole
NCRL-
He came out ninth on the qualifying
grid and then sat back and watched as 39 other drivers attempted to
knock him off the top spot doe Sunday's Subway 500 in Phoenix.
Mark Martin would run a 133.814 mph lap to hold of the Busch brothers,
points leader Jeff Gordon, and Bran Vickers for the pole.
This pole victory is Martin's third this season. Prior to these
three poles Martin hadn't had pone for eight years. Which makes
many think that he will also pick up a win for his new team.
HIs run would hold of Kyle Busch by a mere .018 seconds but he would
still hold the top spot. Behind Martin and Busch were Kurt Busch,
Jeff Gordon and Brian Vickers rounding out the top five spots.

- Castroneves' Jury Deliberates
NCRL-
The jury in the income tax evasion
case of Helio Castroneves took the case to the jury room on Friday April
10. The 12 member jury is deciding on Castroneves' guilt in a $5.5
million tax evasion charge by the Federal Government.
After six weeks the jury has heard from both the Government and defense
in this case. The defense claims that Castroneves owes nothing to
the Government because the money in question was paid to his father who
lives in Brazil. As for the income from his team owner Penske
Racing the defense claims that the income was to be sent to a Dutch
annuity account. Castroneves would start to receive payment from
that account in May of this year and he had planed to start paying taxes
on it then.
The prosecution claims that Castroneves' contract with Penske had the
money going to his offshore company, Seven Promotions, in Panama for the
last three years, and Penske should have been withholding 30 percent of
his income under US tax law. They went on to tell the jury that
Castroneves had planed not to pay his taxes so he could retire in Monaco
a known tax-haven.

04/09: EGR Shuts Down the #8

Its a little hard to believe but the
famous #8 that Dale Earnhardt Jr. made famous will not be running.
The result of bad economics the team has not been able to secure a

sponsor.
Last years sponsor the U.S. Army moved over to the new Stewart-Haas

something would have developed.
They are still looking and have considered lending Almirola out to any

Gordon, day all day. Well, not quit. While Hamlin and Gordon
together lead the most laps of anyone, it would be Jimmie Johnson would
would walk away with the win.
As the race was winding down a caution on lap 428 would help put Johnson
in the lead after winning the race out of the pits.
Johnson would continue to lead until another caution set up a monster
move by Hamlin as the green flag flew on lap 457. Hamlin would get
an incredible run on Johnson and make a pass low to regain the lead and
drive way.
Two more caution would set up a killer move by Johnson to take the lead
for the final time and drive away with the win.
After the 12th and final caution on lap 473 Hamlin would bring the filed
to the green flag. Johnson would drive hard and catch Hamlin on
lap 484. Johnson would drive into the left corner panel of
Hamlin's Toyota nudging him up the track. Johnson would drive low
as both drives were on the edge of spinning. Both would recover
but Johnson would have the lead and drive to a .872 second win over
Hamlin.
When the race got under way it looked like it would be all Jeff Gordon.
He would come out leading and hold that spot until lap 144, only
yielding the lead when he came in for service. His dominance would
end when Hamlin passed him low on lap 156.
Then it was all Hamlin. He would get a one lap challenge from
Gordon but he would move right back to the lead. It appeared that
this was his race to lose. Then on lap 248 the ninth caution would
bring Jimmie Johnson into the picture.
Johnson would win the race out of the pits and become the leader.
As things got racy the tenth caution would set up a big move by Hamlin.
As they went back to racing Hamlin would get a great start and get under
Johnson to regain the lead.
But the final caution would close the door on a Hamlin win as Johnson
would mussel his way by Hamlin and drive to the checkers.
Finishing behind Johnson and Hamlin were Stewart, Gordon, and Bowyer.
The race saw seven leaders and 13 lead changes. With Gordon's
fourth place finish he will remain the points leader going into Texas.

03/22: It Was All Kyle
NCRL-
Kyle Busch leads 378 of 500 laps at Bristol
Busch would grab the lead back
from Jimmie Johnson on lap 435 and set up a fight with his teammate
Denny Hamlin. But, Busch would hold on through three cautions with the
final one coming when his rookie teammate Joey Logano's Toyota blew up.

With only two laps left for the checkers Busch would get a nice jump and
pull away as Hamlin needed to defend his second place finish over Jimmie
Johnson.
The race would get underway with pole sitter Mark Martin leading the
field to the green. He would hold the spot until Ryan Newman would move
around him for the lead.
The first of 9 cautions would come out on lap 27 when John Andretti spun
in turn 2. Jimmie Johnson would stay out and take over the lead.
Bringing everyone back to the green on lap 33.
Johnson would hold on to the top spot until Busch passed him on lap 70
for the first time of the race. He would then go on to dominate moving
to the front when ever he wanted.
The race saw 16 lead changes and eight leaders. But, it would be all
Busch leading the most laps with 378. The race also saw 9 cautions with
the last one setting up a green/white/checkers.
Hamlin, Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Kasey Kahne would round out the top
five spots. With points leader Gordon's fourth place finish
keeps his hold on to the top spot.

seconds over the Peugeots.
For the Acura of team de Ferran Motorsports would succumb to mechanical

03/13: At Darlington Test, Drivers
Pleased with Goodyear
DARLINGTON, S.C. -- In a rare
show of accord, the NASCAR drivers testing tires at Darlington Raceway
this week agreed that Goodyear is making progress on the most thankless
task in racing.
All four drivers testing at Darlington -- Kevin Harvick, Bobby Labonte,
Elliott Sadler and Denny Hamlin -- felt the tires Goodyear brought to
the track had worked well so far, pointing to strong, exciting racing
when the Cup Series returns to Darlington on May 9 with the rechristened
Southern 500.
If Goodyear brings good,
effective rubber to a racetrack, people think the manufacturer is simply
doing its job. Bring a tire that doesn't hold up or slips around -- and
gentlemen, start your griping. (NASCAR.com)

grass during a green flag stop was suspended by NASCAR for a violation
that no crew member can go onto the track for any reason while the cars

Watts was also placed on probation for the rest of the year.
The #47's crew chief Frank Kerr was also placed on probation for the
rest of the year. This is because he is considered by the rules as
responsible for the actions of the team.

The world got its first look Monday at
Audi's new R15 TDI, the latest diesel-powered factory prototype from
Audi AG that will race for the first time at the 57th Mobil 1 Twelve
Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida. It will mark the start
of the 2009 American Le Mans Series and serve as its 100th all-time
event.
Audi is the only automobile manufacturer to have won the famous 24 Hours
of Le Mans with a diesel car. "With the R15 TDI we have created the base
to be in a position to win also in 2009," said Head of Audi Motorsport
Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich.
Dindo Capello, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish will drive one R15 TDI at
the 12 Hours with Mike Rockenfeller joining defending Series LMP1
champions Lucas Luhr and Marco Werner in the other.
Audi has taken P1 victories at Sebring every year since its first race
in 2000. It won every Sebring race overall from 2000-2007. In 2006, Audi
unveiled its R10 TDI that won its first time out at Sebring
International Raceway. Since that time, the R10 TDI is unbeaten at the
24 Hours of Le Mans and Petit Le Mans. (americanlemans.com)

03/08: A Day at the Park for Kurt
Busch
NCRL-
It was just a Sunday
afternoon drive for Kurt Busch as he dominated everyone in Atlanta.
Busch would have little problem going to the front when ever he wanted
to. He would only give up the lead to other drivers for 90 laps.
As they ran toward the finish fuel become an issue, but a late caution
for Robby Gordon losing a tire sent Busch, and Vickers both to the pits
for a splash.
When they came out Carl Edwards was the new leader taking only two
tires. After leading Busch would make it out in second, but
Vickers would find himself in sixth, and end up finishing fifth.

When they went back racing it would be a green/white/checkered finish.
Edwards, Busch, Jeff Gordon, Truex Jr., and Kevin Harvick were the top
five cars.
Busch would make a hard run and pass Edwards for the lead bringing
Gordon with him. Edwards would make another run as they came to end but
Gordon would get back around him and finish second behind a cursing Kurt
Busch.
The race started off with a quick caution when Reed Sorenson hit the
wall in turn 1. They would get back to green but it would only
last for 10 laps as Bobby Labonte would spin out in turn three. He
would get though that incident with no damage. But, would
have another issue on lap 103 that ended any chance for him he would
finish 40th.
For Kurt Busch he would take the lead for the first time on lap seven
passing pole sitter Mark Martin who would run strong until a tire put
him into the outside wall ending his chances again.
From this point on Kurt Busch was the man in a car that was on rails.
Nothing he did caused him any problems. His most laps lead with
235 were more laps then he led all last year.
The race saw 11 cautions with eight leaders and 13 lead changes.
Jeff Gordon lead the second most laps with only 46.
The to five finishers were Busch, Gordon, Edwards, Harvick, and Vickers.
With Gordon's second place finish he will remain the points leader going
into Bristol March 22.

03/06: Martin Puts the 5 on the Pole
NCRL-
Mark Martin will start Sunday
from the pole position after running a 187.045 mph qualifying lap today
knocking Greg Biffle off the pole.
Biffle would come out in the fifth spot for qualifying and pick up the
pole from Jimmie Johnson who rolled out in the second position.
Biffle would post a 186.184 lap however it would be no match for Martin.
Martin would come, out in the 12th qualifying position and blow Biffle
off the top spot with little trouble. He would then sit back and
watch as everyone else tried to take the spot.
The closest driver to make Martin take notice was Kurt Busch. Busch
would come out in the 34th spot and run a 186.365 mph lap bumping Jamie
McMurray to third but having little to cause Martin any real concern.
Starting in the fourth spot will be Juan Pablo Montoya, and Biffle would
hold on to the fifth spot rounding out the top five.
Sunday's race looks like it will be ran under very good conditions.
Our friends at Race Weather.net are calling for a partly cloudy day with
temperatures in the mid 70's.
The race will be televised on FOX starting at 1:30 pm ET.

03/02: The Tail of Two Tracks
NCRL-
No one is sure how the
economic down turn will effect racing this year, this is especially true
for NASCAR.
Last week at the California Speedway in Fontana it almost resembled a
Nationwide race in the stands. As the camera panned there were
numbers of seats that were empty. True weather could have played a
role in the small turnout, but California Speedway is just not putting
the fans in the seats.
We have written before about the second race sucking up some of the
sales, but what could be the bigger problem is Las Vegas.
While it makes since to have a western swing, and racing in
February/March is a lot cooler than in August/September there is another
big item in Vegas that helps draw fans. Stuff to do.
Las Vegas has sightseeing and gambling, its open 24 hours and can keep
everyone occupied for the whole weekend. California Speedway?
Well, its in Fontana... Oh, and there is a big mall in Ontario.
That's about it.
The California Speedway is out in the middle of nowhere. Yes,
there is a middle of no where in California and NASCAR has found it
twice.
If someone wanted to go to Disneyland during the race weekend its 50
miles away. If they wanted to go to Hollywood (don't ask me why), yep
about 50 miles. Anywhere you might want to go other than hang at
the track all weekend is over 50 miles away.
Vegas? You can gamble in a restroom... Casinos will take you
to and from the track. There is just way too much stuff not to
think about tossing a NASCAR race.
The California Speedway needs to reassess their dwindling crowds or they
may go the way of Ontario Speedway. Oh, its a business park now it
folded during a recession.

03/01 Kyle Picks Up First Win
NCRL-
It was a little hard to
believe that Kyle Busch would be the winner of the Shelby 427 early on.
Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Jeff Burton all looked like the
possible winners. With Johnson leading 92 of the 285 lap.
Kyle's had won the pole on Friday but, his team made an engine change
and he had to start from rear of the field this afternoon.
As the race progressed Busch would move up into the top five taking the
lead for the first time on lap 229 after a caution for Jeff
Gordon who blew a tire after missing the pit entrance.
Busch would lose the lead to Clint Bowyer who would sty out after a
caution for debris. With Jeff Burton and Bowyer battling for the
lead Busch would reel both in and make a move passing Bowyer on lap 269.
He would then just drive away from everyone until the 13th caution came
out for Paul Menard who hit the outside wall hard.
The race would get underway again with only seven laps left. But,
one last caution would com on lap 280 after Jimmie Johnson spun hitting
the outside wall. In a quick caution they went back to racing with
two laps left.
Busch would drive away again making the race a battle for second.
As Burton and Bowyer, who was running on fumes, fought for second place
Carl Edwards who was in fourth would lose his engine. But, NASCAR
would not call a caution and Kyle Busch would come all the way from the
rear to win his first Cup race for 2009.
Bowyer would hold off his teammate Burton to pick up second with Burton
in third. A big day for David Reutimann who would finish fourth
and Carl Edwards would hold on to pick up fifth.
The race saw a record 14 cautions, had 13 leaders and 16 lead changes.
Jimmie Johnson would lead the most laps as he dominated the first half
of the race before crashing late, with 92 laps.
For points leader Matt Kenseth it was a disaster. His car would blow up
on the seventh lap putting him out of the race and finishing in the 43ed
spot.

02/27: Look Out it's the Busch Boys
NCRL-
The Busch boys Kyle and Kurt
has put them selves in the one two positions. Younger brother Kyle
will start from the pole with a 185.995 mph run in qualifying at Las
Vegas., Older brother Kurt found himself in the outside running
only .045 seconds behind younger brother.
Rounding out the top five spots are Jimmie Johnson, David Reutiman, and
Marcos Ambrose.
Points leader and two time race winner Matt Kenseth will start from the
44th spot.
Sunday's race will see temps in the middle to low 70's at race time with
variable clouds. The race can be seen on FOX starting at 3:30 PM
ET.
__________________________________________________________________
02/22: Two in a Row
NCRL-
It was a typical California
race. With the added attraction of rain. Unlike Daytona this
ran may have helped teams make their way to the end. California is
not a track for drivers but rather a track for the car. Can the
car make it to the end?
In what was a very clean race with four of the five cautions rain
related, it would start out as a typical Jimmie Johnson race.
Johnson would lead the most laps until last weekends Daytona winner Matt
Kenseth would move to the front. Kenseth would then run the most
laps with 84.
Kenseth's closet challenger would be Jeff Gordon who hung around the top
five all night. Gordon would lead the third most laps with 64.
As the race wound down after Kevin Harvick brought out the only non-rain
related caution on lap 207 it turned into a race just between Matt
Kenseth and Jeff Gordon. The question was could Gordon reel
Kenseth in as the laps ticked off.
With four laps left Kenseth would pick up the pace as it started to
appear that Gordon had lost his tires. With three laps to go
Kenseth would get a nice cushion with a lapped car between him and
Gordon.
When it came to an end it would be Kenseth's second win in a row as he
would beat Gordon by over a second cursing to the checkers.
Kenseth's win makes him only the fourth driver to win the first two
races out of the box with Daytona and California.
Behind Kenseth and Gordon Kyle Busch who would come up short of his
three California wins, Greg Biffle, and Kurt Busch rounding out the top
five spots.
the race would see only five cautions with 12 leaders and 19 lead
changes. Kenseth would lead the most laps with 84. He would take
over the top spot on lap 215 and never looked back.

- Busch Update
NCRL-
There is a little note that
needs to be placed here. after Saturday's Nationwide race. That
guy named Busch, you know Kyle. Well he will be going into
Sunday's race the winner of both the truck and Nationwide races.
Keep an eye on Kyle.

02/21: Johnson Leads the Field in Happy Hour, Vickers Needs New Engine
NCRL-
The California Speedway has
turned into Jimmie Johnson's track. And, it isn't really any
different this weekend.
While there was a blip when Brian Vickers held him off the pole the
Southern California Gods must like Jimmie. Vickers' team found
that their engine had an issue and opted to change it. This put
Vickers to the rear of the field and has placed Johnson in the front
spot.
California has become a pretty boring race for the fans. While the
drivers love the track there isn't much jockeying around. Once
someone jumps to the front that could be it for the races, and
considering that Johnson is now in the top spot the bets are that he
will continue his dominance in So, Cal.
____________________________________________________________
02/20: Vickers Puts Toyota on
California Pole
NCRL-
Brian Vickers came out fourth
for qualifying and had Kyle Busch to beat. But it was still really
early and nothing that early is cast in stone. But, his 183.439
mph run would become the time to beat as driver after driver failed to
knock him out of the top spot.
California goldenboy Jimmie Johnson would come the closest to bumping
Vickers when he rolled out in the 25th spot. He would come up
short though running a 183.164 lap and landing in the second spot. No
one else would have anything for Vickers as he held off everyone to
become the pole sitter for Sunday's Auto Club 500.
Rounding out the top five spots were McMurray, Kurt Busch, and Greg
Biffle.
Race Weather.net is calling for some cloudy skies and a chance of late
showers, with temps in the high 60's to low 70's.
The race will be broadcast on FOX starting at 5:00 pm ET.

02/19: Patrick and USF1

Danica Patrick is back in the news.
Rumors have been running everywhere that the IRL driver was being

rumors but less than offers.
Patrick has been reported to say that while she has been flattered
to hear the talk there has not been any formal talks.

02/15: All it Takes is to Lead One
Lap, Kenseth Wins Rain Short 500
NCRL-
Pole sitter Martin Truex Jr. would bring
the field to the green flag for the 51st Daytona 500. He would
lead the first lap but gave it up to Mark Martin on the next lap.
But, Martin's time in the front would be short as Kyle Busch as he
drove to the front.
Busch appeared to be the strongest car for most of the race moving
to the front almost at will. However, a big crash on lap 124 would
end his chance to win as he was done for the day.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. who would lead early in the race would have some
frustrating race with two costly mistakes that may have been the
catalyst for the big crash on lap 124. His first incident came on
lap 56 when he would miss his pit stall and had to go around before
coming back in, he would fall a lap down. Then later on lap
121 after getting back on to the lead lap he would would pit but not
be in the pit box and would be held falling a lap down again.
After that miscue Earnhardt would come to the green and make a hard
run on Brian Vickers to pick-up the "lucky dog". As he was
making his run on Vickers on lap 123 Vickers would come down and
block Earnhardt. Then Earnhardt would turn back into Vickers
clipping Vicker's right rear quarter panel and started a multi-car
crash collecting Kyle Busch, McMurray, Hamlin, Kurt Busch, Carl
Edwards, Robby Gordon, Johnson, Speed, and Vickers back
stretch.
When it got back green on lap 143 Elliott Sadler would be the leader
with Matt Kenseth behind him. Kenseth who had started in the
39th spot would get a push from Kevin Harvick and slip by Sadler to
take the lead for the first time.
Right after Kenseth took the lead Aric Almirola would spin after
contact with Kasey Kahne bring out the yellow.
With rain threatening no one on the lead lap would came in for
a stop. Before they could go green the rain would start and
three laps later NASCAR would throw the red flag and then in a very
shout time they would call the race making Kenseth the winner.
Behind Kenseth were Harvick, a surprising A.J. Allmendinger, Bowyer,
and Sadler rounding out the top five.
The race had eight cautions with 10 leaders and 11 lead changes.
Kyle Busch would lead the most laps with 88 but would not finish
after being caught up in the big crash on lap 124.

02/12: Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch Win
NCRL-
It will be Jeff Gordon
and Kyle Busch sitting behind Truex Jr. and Martin on Sunday for the
51st running of the Daytona 500.
Jeff Gordon would win the first of the Gatorade Duels with Tony
Stewart in his rearview mirror. In the second Duel it came
down to a drag race between Busch and Martin with Busch holding
martin off to pick up the win.
Some surprises for the four open spots saw Scott Riggs, A.J.
Allmendinger, Jeremy Mayfield, and Regan Smith all make their way
into Sunday's 500.
Sunday's top five starts are Truex Jr. who saved his car after a
spin during the Duel. It is still unknown at this time if he
will need any work done to the car that might put him at the back of
the field. Mark Martin who looks very strong so far, Jeff
Gordon, Kyle Busch, and Tony Stewart who is in his first year as an
owner and driver.
13 drivers did not make it into the race which included Mike
Wallace, Joe Nemechek, Boris Said, Tony Rains, and Geoff Bodine to
name some.
Race Weather.net is calling for partly cloudy skies with the
possibility of isolated PM Showers. Temps will be in the low
70's.
The race will be televised on FOX starting at 2:00 pm ET.

02/08: Truex Jr. and Martin will Lead the Field
NCRL-
While it will take the two 150 mile Gatorade Duels to sort out where
everyone will start there are two drivers that have noting to worry
about.
Martin Truex Jr. will lead the pact to the green flag on the 15th
with Mark Martin on his outside as the two driver took the top
honors>
It looked like it would be Martin on the pole until Truex bumped him
by .047 seconds running a 188.001 lap. When Truex hit the back
straight he was running no better than sixth, but he came out of the
back stretch sitting on the pole.
Mark Martin would bump his new teammate Jeff Gordon off the pole
with his first run in his new car. He would move to the top
spot running 187.817 mph lap speed.
Rounding out the top five were Ryan Newman, in his new ride with
teammate and owner Tony Stewart, Martin Truex's new teammate Juan
Pablo Montoya, and NASCAR Icon Bill Elliott.
Thursday's Gatorade Duels will set the rest of the 500 filed.

02/07: Harvick Picks Up Win
NCRL-
This was the kind of race NASCAR needs. A record number of
lead changes, a thrilling finish, and well, OK a bunch of crashes.
Kevin Harvick would make a last lap pass on Jamie McMurray with a
big push from Denny Hamlin to get the win.
For McMurray it looked like his race until a late crash between Greg
Biffle and David Stremme would set up the two lap shootout. When
they went green Harvick who had started the race in the 23ed spot
would be in fourth. As they came to the last lap it look like
McMurray but the push by Hamlin would send Harvick to Victory Land.
Of note Hamlin who gave Harvick the push would be caught in a four
car crash as the race ended.
Also of note was Tony Stewart who would finish in third. He
did so in his new Chevy after laving Gibbs Racing last year.
Jeff Gordon and AJ Allmendinger rounded out the top five.

Racing. Tony Furr from Roush-Fenway will be the teams crew
chief. the operations will be out of Harrisburg N.C.>

02/01: It's February and only 13 Days to Daytona
NCRL-
The 24 Hours at Daytona opened to 2009 racing season, and in less
than two weeks the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will start with the
Daytona 500. But, this year may be a very different racing
season. Money will be the ruling factor for all of the series, but
nothing like it will for NASCAR.
We have watched a lot over the break as the auto industry struggles
to stay afloat and NASCAR teams ether cut staffs or just folded.
How hard times will play out is hard to say.
In other racing news in the past couple of weeks.
Terry Labonte will try to make a run for the Daytona 500.
The two time Cup Champion will drive a Toyota for Prism Motorsports
owned by Phil Parsons and Randy Humphrey. The team has
indicated that they plan to run a full Cup session with Dave Blaney
at the wheel for the rest of the year.
AJ Allmendinger sighed with the new Richard Petty Motorsports to
drive the #44. The deal is for '09 with an option for '10.
Money and sponsorship problems has the team attempting to run in the
500, and the first eight race of '09. They also plan to fun in
the July Daytona race. If however they can find a sponsor they
would expand their session.
In more Petty News Reed Sorenson will be the drier of the #43.
The team will be sponsored by McDonald's. With Sorenson the
Petty team will try and field four cars. With the merger of
GEM the team now has Kasey Kahne, Elliott Sadler, AJ Allmendinger,
and Sorenson. The Allmendinger car will start with a partial
season unless they can secure a full time sponsor.
John Andretti will attempt to run in this years 500 driving for a
partnership between Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and Front Row
Motorsports. Another vetrin driver Geoff Bodine will make his
attempt at the 500 driving for Larry Gunselman in the #64 Toyota.
This will be the 60 year old Bodine's first run in a NASCAR Cup race
since 2004.
In IRL news they League plans to race at
the Milwaukee Mile the weekend of May 30.
KV Racing has indicated that they may be cutting back to only one
car this year. It was just a couple of weeks ago that Jimmy
Vasser had indicated that he was looking at the possibility of
signing Paul Tracy. But, because of sponsorship issues and
that they just laid off 18 people it looks like only one car.
Following with sponsorship problems Rahal-Letterman has announced
that they might not run at all this year. Rahal was specific
that the current economic problems may well push him out of the
sport.

01/25: Brumos Racing Scores Historic Rolex 24 Win With Porsche
Riley and Donohue/Law/Garcia/Rice; TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cups Take
One-Two in GT
DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – January 25 – On the 40th anniversary
of his father’s victory at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, David
Donohue, of Malvern, Penn., drove a gripping last hour of the 2009
sports car classic to pass, and then hold off, former Formula 1
champion and NASCAR star Juan Pablo Montoya to score an overall win
for him and his teammates Antonio Garcia (Madrid, Spain), Darren Law
and Buddy Rice (both Phoenix, Ariz.) in the Brumos Porsche Riley
prototype at Daytona International Speedway.
It was the closest finish in the 47-year history of the Rolex 24,
with Donohue edging Montoya by 17- hundreths of a second. In fact,
with four cars finishing within eight seconds of the leader, this
year’s finish will be hard to beat. The Brumos Racing team Porsche
Riley of Joao Barbosa (Porto, Portugal)/Hurley Haywood (Ponte Verda
Beach, Fla.)/JC France (Daytona Beach, Fla.)/Terry Brocheller (Vero
Beach, Fla.) finished third after contesting the race late into the
event.
Porsche’s perfect day was completed when the TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup
racer piloted by Andy Lally (Dacula, Ga.)/Patrick Long (Bellair,
Fla.)/Joerg Bergmeister (Langenfeld, Germany)/Justin Marks
(Rockland, Calif.)/RJ Valentine (Braintree, Mass.) won the GT class
of the Rolex 24 by a lap over TRG Porsche teammates Ted Ballou
(Corona Del Mar, Calif.)/Emmanuel Collard (Paris, France)/Tim
George, Jr. (New York, NY)/Richard Lietz (Ybbsitz, Austria)/Spencer
Pumpelly (Suwanee, Ga.). Porsche also took third in GT, with the
Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car of Sascha Maassen (Aachen,
Germany)/Phillip Martien (Finksburg, Maryland)/Patrick Pilet (Le
Chesnay, France)/BJ Zacharias (Cincinnati, Ohio).
The Brumos Porsche team win was significant for many reasons,
including: The first overall win for Porsche since 2003 (The Racer’s
Group Porsche 911 GT3 RS), and the first overall win for Brumos
Racing since 1978 (Porsche 935). The first win for a Porsche entered
in the overall class since 1995 (Kremer – Porsche K8). First win for
the Porsche 911-based 3.99-liter Grand-Am race engine. Brumos
Racing’s first Daytona prototype win since 2003 (Mont Tremblant)
Porsche prototypes led 500 of the 735 laps.
“This was a great team effort, which started last winter when we did
more than 3,000 hours of testing, lots of creative problem-solving
by the Brumos crew, and hard work by Porsche to improve our chances
to win races overall,” said an elated Donohue, who scored his first
overall 24-hour win.
“We
were rock-solid when we got here, and we never touched the car once
it rolled off the trailer.
From fastest in
practice in the winter test to qualifying on the pole for the race,
we were set for a
good event, and my teammates did the rest. This
was really great.” said Donohue.
The Crown Royal Penske Porsche Riley driven by Timo Bernhard
(Germany)/Romain Dumas (France)/
Ryan Briscoe
(Australia) led much of the early part of the race, including the
overnight hours, until the
transmission broke as the sun came up on
Sunday. The Penske Racing crew replaced
the gearbox but lost
15 laps in the process, and ended up finishing sixth overall.
In the GT class, the Farnbacher Loles Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup
cars were also fast, leading the
class for many hours
until mechanical ills beset them, especially the #86
Farnbacher/Lux/Marsh/Roush
racer, which finished fifth, and the
#87
Henzler/Keen/Werner/Westbrook Porsche, which finished eighth.
TRG team owner Kevin Buckler, who has an overall win and a class win
at Daytona to his credit, said
this GT victory was
as rewarding as his overall victory in 2003.
“This effort from all the guys at the shop, the drivers, and our
partners make this very sweet.
The Porsches ran
great all weekend, and it was a great win. It’s nice to have people
working with
you that are both talented and personable,” said
Buckler.

01/23: Rolex 24 at Daytona Starts Today
NCRL-
Today at 3:30 pm ET the 47th 24 hours at Daytona will begin
ushering in the 2009 racing year. The race will end tomorrow
at 3:30 pm ET.
The race will be broadcast on FOX starting Saturday from 3:00 to
4:30 pm ET and then move over to the Speed Channel for the remainder
of the race with full coverage starting on Sunday at 7:00 am ET.
- Tracy to the IRL
NCRL-
For Paul Tracy fans it appears that there is a good chance that the
Canadian driver may find a ride for the 2009 IRL series. It
has been reported that Jimmy Vasser is looking at signing Tracy for
the 2009 session. Currently, Vasser has not determined if he
will run one or two cars this year which will have an impact on a
Vasser, Tracy deal.
But, possibly the biggest issue is sponsorship. While the IRL
is a deal for sponsors compared to NASCAR it may still be a rather
large stumbling block as the Global Economy continues to sputter. If
Tracy can find one he will likely be running this year.
Developing.
- NASCAR and Roush at Odds
NCRL-
NASCAR established a team limit of only four cars in 2005. At
that time Roush was granted a five year waiver so they could fun all
five of their cars. On Thursday Roush indicated that he wanted
to continue to run the five cars beyond the 2010 deadline to comply
with the four car rule.
Roush Fenway used the economy as a bargaining point. Looking
at the current sponsor issues as teams readied for the 2009
schedule. Considering that NASCAR may well struggle to field
their 43 car races Roush Fenway felt by keeping their team intact
would help.
For NASCAR it did little to persuade them they indicated that Roush
Fenway would still be required to drop one car next year.

01/15: The Press Spoke to Soon, Labonte to Hall of Fame Racing
NCRL-
What appeared to be a done deal with Bobby Labonte going to
Earnhardt Ganassi Racing to drive the #8 has taken a turn. Hall of
Fame Racing shocked everyone when they announced that Labonte would
pilot their #96 Ford for the 2009 season.
What happened to the EGR report? Well, rumors and
unsubstantiated reports running wild on the Internet that's what
happened.
While Labonte had talked to EGR a deal had not been cut and the
clock was ticking. So he signed with HFR. He will have a full
sponsor with Internet Ask.com, as well as Texas Instruments DLP who
will continue their relationship with the team.
Other speculation for the move was the merger of HFR with Yates one
of the reasons the team moved from Toyota to Ford.
- VW to Supply IRL Motors
NCRL-
A report is out there that Volkswagen may be in talks with the IRL
to supply motors as soon as 2011. Currently Honda is the sole
engine provider for the series. It appears that the Volkswagen
Group has been talking to the IRL about becoming an engine supplier
since last June. However nothing is solid at this tie.
- Power to Drive #3 as Back-Up
NCRL-
It was announced by Penske Racing that Will Power will drive for
Helio Castroneves while he fights his tax evasion chargers brought
by the Internal Revenue Service.
Castroneves is facing up to 35 years in jail if convicted on
all seven counts against him. The trial starts March 2 only
five weeks before the IRL season opener.
Penske could not take a chance that Castroneves would be have a
favorable decision then turn out not to and lose his driver.
This story is still developing.

01/12: Labonte to DEI, Almirola on Bubble
NCRL-
It appears that Bobby Labonte will be driving the #8 Chevy for the
Earnhardt Ganassi Racing next season. It has been reported by
a number of sources that the deal should be announced within the
next two weeks.
The move to the #8 car has put Aric Almirola in a tight position.
Currently the team has only two sponsors for their four cars.
Martin Truex Jr. will continue to drive the #1 sponsored by Bass Pro
Shops. But currently Bass will only sponsor the #1 for a
part-time run in '09. The team may need to secure another
sponsor or group of sponsors for up to 15 races.
Juan Pablo Montoya will continue to drive the #42 but has picked up
Target as his primary sponsor from the #41 car of last year.
Labonte who is in the #8 currently does not have a sponsor for that
car. But, with the addition of a Cup Champion things may
change before Daytona .
This leaves Almirola, who was expected to drive the #8 fulltime next
year, in an un-sponsored fourth car which at this time doesn't even
have a number. At this time it is hard to speculate if he will
have a full, or part-time deal with the newly formed team.
This story is still developing.

01/10: Petty Gillett on Verge, and Sadler Might Be Back
NCRL-
It looks like the Petty Gillett merger could be a done deal.
It has been reported that the two have reached an agreement in
principle. With the deal it has also been reported that the
Petty name will be a major part of the deal. In fact the
speculation has it as Richard Petty Motorsports, wit the team
headquartered in GEM's operation in Statesville N.C.
It was also reported that the team will run a fourth car and that
Elliott Sadler would return. Sadler was released for A.J.
Allmendinger but threatened to sue to keep his ride which appears to
have worked.
As with a number of teams sponsorship is a major issue.
______________________________________________
01/02: Petty to close Doors
NCRL-
The 2009 Cup season will be the first time in 60 years that Petty
will not be a part of NASCAR. The final details of a merger
between Petty and Gillett Evernham has been reported as a done deal.
Petty will be laying off the majority of the 39 employees at their
Mooresville N.C. shop ending their NASCAR operations.
The end of the #43 car under a Petty banner is being reported to now
have Reed Sorenson as the driver.
The teams last Cup win came in 1999 at Martinsville with John
Andretti. Bobby Labonte has been driving the #43 for the last
three seasons. He was released from his contract earlier last
month.
- Patrick Cited for Speeding
NCRL-
Danica Patrick the first woman to win a major auto racing event
was cited for speeding in Scottsdale Az. Patrick was clocked doing
54 mph in a 35 mph zone. This is not the first time that the
Indy Racing League driver has been cited.
Rather than appear in court she paid the $196.00 fine.
She was stopped on December 9th while driving her 2007 Mercedes.
A year ago she had been pulled over for doing 57 mph in a 40 mph
zone in Scottsdale. As a result she was required to attend
traffic school.
